'Solving' Topics
« on: 20 Aug 2002, 05:32:24 »
Dudes,

the old 'problem solved' option has been integrated with this forum, and i ask you all to make use of it ;)

You can only solve a thread that you have started, and solving will also lock.

The moderators/staff will soon be moving 'solved' threads into a huge searchable FAQ, and the visual indication of the solved thread is how they know that a topic is complete.

Questions?

A couple of queastions snYpir

When the topic is moved to the FAQ will it be in the form of the thread, or will the staff filter out the question and answers from the less relevant posts?

What will happen to duplicate questions?

Cheers

The staff will create the FAQ based on posts in the forums and other sources. So the result will not be cluttered with  irellevant comments. Only the usefull stuff will remain.

unless your problem is solved, don't click ;)

you still have your original problem, yeah? so it's not solved then.

the thread starter can 'unsolve' a thread at any time if required.

Its late and if i had a beer i'd blame it on that too but, you all are Brilliant.  Now when we have newbies they can check the FAQ section and presto... Even though it don't dice and it don't slice, it F'n works.  I like that.

I'm totally new to forums in  general -- so, I'm not kidding. How does one close out and lock a topic?  By just typing  'problem solved'?  ???

Thanks for replying to a 'dumb' question.

;)

when you start a topic, you will see the option to solve that topic in the top right hand corner of each message.

it is a button with a green tick and the word 'solve'.

when you click that button, it will lock your thread and you'll see the visual indication of the solved thread from the message index (the blue smiley with the cigarette).

our staff will soon be entering 'solved' threads into our huge searchable FAQ.

does that make it a little clearer?

Thanks for your patient explanation, snYpir.

As fast as this site is growing, you probably just helped a whole gang of other 'new kids on the block'.
