Pack the music into a smaller format. I have five about one and a half minute long clips in my mission and their size together is a bit over 2 megs.

well wotofook, you use a program to compress the music from .wav to .ogg right? So when you do that, set the compression to lower quality and the file size will be smaller.  :)

Wot u recommend as a decent compression rate, will the music be really bad quality if i set it to lowest compression.

If I remember right I've been using 44100Khz frequency, mono and 48 Kbps which sounds fine. You can experiment different Bit rates, but again if I remember correctly, in music files the frequenzy has to be 44100Khz. Some one correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a few months since I've done these things.

Ive managed to get it down to 3 megs but thats still 2 big for my liking. I'll just have to get rid of sum of my songs.

If it's a multiplayer mission 3 megs IS too much (unless it's the mission of the millenium, which everyone is going to have). If it's for singleplayer, I don't think 3 megs is too bad (unless it's not anything worth the download, especially for 56k modem users)  ;D

Yeah be nice to us 56kers like me! ;D

If the mission is GREAT and doesn't pack a lot of addons and is 2.5mb I'll download it. 3mb is stretching it as it takes something like an hour or so to get on my pc.

Good luck though.

in music files the frequenzy has to be 44100Khz

I'm pretty sure that the samping rate of 44.1 Khz ,or 44100hz,  is just the maximum sampling rate supported by ofp for music/sound files...

you should be able to use as low of a sampling rate as whatever you program you're using to convert supports.

Generally the range of 44.1khz is consumer standard for digital audio applications, even though it still has poor sound quality compared to the professional gear out there... ( I often record at sampling rates upwards of 96Khz in professional applications)

44.1Khz was chosen to satisfy the Nyquist Theorem, which states that in order to digitally encode the desired frequency bandwidth , the selected sample rate must be at least twice as high as the highest frequency to be recorded.

Thus an audio signal with a bandwidth of 20Khz (very close to the accepted range of human hearing) would require a sampling rate of at least 40,000 samples per second (40Khz).

In addition if any signals that are greater than one half of the sample rate are allowed to enter the conversion process , then alias frequencies will occur which might be heard as audible harmonic distortion

So.. to make a long point.. uhh.. long...

you can use as low of a sampling rate as you want.. but the sound quality will decline greatly at anything lower than a sampling rate of 40 Khz

Okay Planck I've thought it through and it actually takes 15 minutes. I haven't downloaded anything in a llllooonnggg time. But I just recently downloaded some mission off opflashpointCZ that was 3.7 mb.
