strokegun doesnt work in MP, works in editor

Hi,
I've been working on a new mission where you sneak into a base dressed as civilians (resistance civilian militia) and have to take weapons off the soldiers walking around.  So I added the weapon "strokegun" (mags first).

Works perfectly in editor testing.  Although the civs don't have rifles, they still do the animation fine and it looks like they punch the enemy.  (The one thats supposed to be a punch - strike - is crap, it never connects with the enemy AND it alerts them so they lie down and you can't hit them)

Then I export it to MPmissions, thinking yay, mission is almost finished.... and the weapon doesnt work.  HELP!
Tried it many times.  Why doesnt teh strokegun work in MP, or is there some weird factor at play here???

Found a workaround -

If you start the game in MP with strokegun, it won't work.  Maybe because theres no picture for it in gear?  

Anyway, if you set a trigger to give the units the weapons it should work.
