I am also learning about retexturing, at the moment I'm working on a Cessna.

First, you need a few programs:
DePBO and StuffPBO or equivalent
Unpack-SQM
TexView
p3d Texture Swap Utility
Notepad
An imaging program, Paintshop or Photoshop are good

If you'd like, I can email you a tutorial I found.

Posting it here would be well worth it!!

I need the same sort of thing.  Would it cover retexturing of all sorts of units?  Is there a difference between retexturing vehicles and soldiers?

I can't find a link, but will email it you guys as a .doc. As far as I know, there's no difference between texturing units and vehicles. BTW, if you need help, ask a mod. I don't have any experience, but am trying to learn.
