Artillery

:-\I had a strange idea how to create real artillery  :
why not make an invisible ring with a radius of something like 20 m, to place somewhere infront of a canon and then tell the canon "this dofire Ring"? The canon (i think) targets the center of the ring and  -since there is nothing- doesn't hit anything! The projectile then flies through the air until it goes down somewhere with a bang. I'd call it "taoist-artillery-system" ;).
Possible?
