self-made sounds to silent
« on: 26 Oct 2007, 18:41:34 »
hi guys,

I am making some new gunshot (and cracking) sounds
only there seems to be a problem with the range.
when im standing 500metres from a firefight i hear ALMOST nothing.
I tried using db+40 in the sound file but then the shots are just to loud when I shoot.
How can i increase the range of the sound without doing anything with "db+.."?

PS: Tried out ffam mod couple days ago: seems like it has the same problem, in editor just make a firefight about 600
metres away, you wont be hearing much gunshots. Also silent tank shots. Which is not realistic at all.

I would start with db+1000 and stand close to the source also I would play official gunshot sounds at the same distance for comparison. (to keep the balance of the whole sound world)
Then I would use a sound software on the .ogg and reduce the file's volume until it fits in. (db+40 or db+1000 doesn't amplify the sound at zero distance, it's never played with more than 100% close to the source)
My last step would be to find a good range with the db value.
