OFPECP SOUND
« on: 13 Sep 2005, 16:43:34 »
Hi

First thanks for this amazing Mod i love it!

My question is, since OFP 1.46 the battle sounds are very close, i mean
if you are very far away from the battle you can here it like you're
there....I've got OFP 1.96 with the new ECP version, and is there any way
to config that??? so like in battlefield 1942, where you hear the sounds far
away like real...

Thanks hope you can help me....

Andy

Welcome to the Forums!

Umm, I'm not too sure, but I think the reason is the BIS guys messed up the equations defining the fade of the sound.  THobson can explain exactly what they did, but I think it has to do with the exponentiality (if that's a word ::)) of the fade equations.

In other words, I think it's hard-coded into the game, there is nothing you can do about it :-\

In RL sound decay is exponential with distance:  however in OFP its linear.   I think.

Consequently sounds from far away are much to loud.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

As far as I know there is a OFP bug like this when you use a Soundblaster Live! and Windows XP.

But there is also something addon/mission creators can do, to setup how far a sound can be heared on the islands:

The Flashpoint sound system is very realistic, there is even a delay to very loud sound events far away from the player.

the ability to hear vehicles etc at distance is all down to the sound config entries.

To alter this you will have to edit the mod's .pbo's or/ and  main config

Are you using Dynamic Sounds with ECP?

This question should really have been posted in the ECP thread, but it is a little late for that, so I will leave it here for now.

I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little.

Hi

Of corse i use them, but the war, sounds still to close if you're  far away from it.....
how is it possible to fix that? that the sounds are like in BF1942, you can hear the
sounds far away, like mg shoots or explosions, and in OFP with ECP DR the sounds are
always the same, doesnt matter if youre there at the war or 3km far away.......
