Helicopter flightpath
« on: 27 May 2005, 21:00:10 »
Is there any way to make a helicopter follow the path between two waypoints exactly?  I want it to fly parallel to a road, but it seems to want to fly directly above it.

You could use the setvelocity command

Code: [Select]
vehicle setVelocity [x, z, y]
Operand types:
    vehicle: Object
    [x, z, y]: Array
Compatibility:
    Version 1.8 required.
Type of returned value:
    Nothing
Description:
Set velocity (speed vector) of vehicle.

I just tested with a few Way-Points (WP). I placed them off the road by ehmm maybe a 100 meters (guessing here) and it flew next to road but not over the top of it.
I think the trick is where ever there is a bend in the road put a WP good distance off-set from the road( which means a couple of more WPs but not many). This avoids the Chopper from crossing over road.
Or you could use X,Y,Z Cordinates method. http://www.ofpec.com/yabbse/index.php?board=6;action=display;threadid=23225

Helicopters are awkward things.  If you only want it to fly next to the road for a short distance, and the road is nice and flat and straight then WPs might work, especially if they are colse together.   I have found that over long distances a chopper will choose to fly over the lowest terrain it can find, and if it gets chance it will fly over the sea.

it depends if enemies are nearby if they are the chopper likes to go off and engage them so set it to safe and never fire.
