would there be a way of making the user more aware that they have a new message?

dialogue box? sound? flashing text?

any thoughts?

I get an email whenever I get a new message... it may be an option somewhere in the preferences to turn that on.

erm, heres a radical idea:
everytime you log on to the forum tke a peek at the bit in the top right that tells you if you have any messages.
if you are that keen to get them then a simple look isnt too much to ask. ;D
