Why can't I use the advanced search?
« on: 09 Aug 2004, 18:51:25 »
When I click on the "advanced search" button in the ed depot, I get a list of all the available resources, but no advanced search options! I try clicking on the "show search options" link, but it reloads the same page. I want to search by author, but I can't get the option to appear. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong as far as I can tell......I get the same result as you.

Below is pictured the area that is the 'Advanced Search' function, which is found at the top of the page that opens when you click on Advanced Seach
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Search by author is done by changing "Search: Title and Description" to "Search: Author" and entering the Author's name in the Text box.

I just searched for everything by Abuu, and it works fine (3 results).

Here's a picture of the result of that search:

Well.......for me it doesn't work.

When you click the Show search options link, nothing changes.

The page just reloads, the only text gadgets visible are:

Category
Sub-Category
Per Page
Display
OFP version

These text gadgets are not there at all:

Containing text
Search
Match

Try a manual refresh of the page, it could be that you have a very old version cached.
Go to the search page, then press Ctrl-F5 (works for IE, Mozilla and FireFox) to force a refresh/redownload of the page.

Let me know if that helps.

I'm starting to see what's happening, but I just want to rule out "just an old page" as a potential cause first.

Hello Noon,

Well the manual refresh made not the slightest bit of difference.

I am using Mozilla 1.7.1 btw

Anyway, hope you find out what the cause is, because using the search function in the ED is a little hamstrung without the extra bits.

Same here. Refresh doesn't help, nor does erasing my cached files, or anything. All I ever get are the top two rows of search options (catagory -> OFP version), and then a link that says "show search options". Clicking on that link just seems to refresh the page. Actually, I've had this problem since OFP re-opened after its long, long downtime (around Feb, I think). I'm using IE v6.  ???

Thx guys, now that you've ruled out old pages, I'll chase up what I believe is the cause... :)
