An idea to help mission makers

I know that music can play a big part in how a mission feels for the player and I think that perhaps it may be a good idea, that everyone posts here, all the good tunes that you think may suit certain conflicts, a brilliant set of music within a mission can really up my satisfaction and appreciation for it. What I would not like however, is if somebody made a Vietnam mission, and included lets say, punk rock as its sound theme . In a way, this thread could be used as a resource for mission makers to find and select good tunes. This is also good for me  ;D since then I can find all those tunes that I could never remember the names off :p

So if the moderators dont mind, I will post some to start this off

If your going to post mention at the beginning what it would suit like I have, and include the artist when possible, if you cant mention the artist, maybe another user can fill in your blanks, this will make it easier for users to track down the song in mention.

I would suggest "Linkin Park - Session" as a good tune for any atmospheric and tense cutscene. I'm using it for my campaign. Hmmm, seems I can't post these days without mentioning my campaign. Ah well. I also think "Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" is suitable for any mission that has a message, if you follow me. Though it is long. I was thinking of using it for my outro but decided against it.

also for a nam mission "youth of america" by BirdBrain may be good, its a bit upbeat but the lyrics go something like

Say a prayer for the youth of America,

God bless our youth from America.

And I can't stand this anymore,

All the dead kids lyin on your door,

and you don't hear a word they're tellin ya.

You're all dead. You're al dead...

You've been wasted!!!

and

Don't believe a thing they're selling ya.

They got a carrot on a stick in front of ya*.

and it was yours in the first place anyway.

note * this line means that they are either lying to you or as most military organisations do (not that im an exper) not let the grunts know 100 percent whats going on

How's it going,
                       I'm working Megadeth's 'Rust In Peace' and 'Dawn Patrol' and
Mettalicas 'Blackend' into a couple of scenes. Mettalicas 'One' has an intro that has battle ambience for about 20 sec that sounds good. Slayer is another. I like the fast riffs for action scenes and the solos can really set the pace for getting the atmosphere of a tight battle. A lot of these songs have lyrics about war and death so they could sit well with alot of missions.

I can't remember the song name or the artist, but the song goes something like this...

"1, 2, 3, what are we fighting for?
 Don't ask me I don't give a damn,
 Next stop is Vietnam.

 And it's 5, 6, 7 open up the pearly gates,

That's the chorus anyway. The rest of the song is also appropriate. I think it's famous enough for one of you to know who wrote it.

The composer John Williams has done some excellent that could be used.
I was also thinking Credence Clearwater have some great songs that would go in really well, like SuzieQ in a chopper or Fortunate Son for an loose outro. Goannas 'Solid Rock' the begining would be pumping in a scene.

For a hectic tank mission, explosions going off everywhere, maybe Frantic by Metallica. Drozdov, I agree Linkin Park session wud b great  ;D I love their music!! And maybe drowning pool 'bodies', you have to hear it to understand what i mean  ;D

Although it is probably only my singular oppinion, I believe one should use tunes that were around during the actual conflict. It could just be me, but hearing music from the 60's in a Nam mission, really makes it feel like the 60's hence bringing about a better atmosphere.

This could be simply because im a bit old fashioned even though im only 20 years old, but I would like to hear other peoples oppinions on this.

It is true, the atmosphere is great with the older songs. It works in the videos of Vietnam, but then the Matrix looked and sounded great in its  action scenes. I wouldn't like to limit myself to one style until all is tried and tested either. But I do agree with you on old classics in vietnam. Probably wouldn't like to do a scene of WW2 with some of the music that was floating around then. So you could also put it down to the 60's had great music.
