All Addons in General

Its really simple.  Why do people waste so much time remaking the same addons over and over again.  We don't need more M4's or 1993 Rangers do we?  Or how about the WWII addons that all seem to be building the same weapons and units.  Wouldn't it be more wise to make one big univseral addon or mod and include all the work from all these addon groups?  Right now its kinda counter productive because all of these groups are doing the same work.  Its also a pain in the butt because you'd need to get 5 different addons, which may never be completed, to get all of the ww2 units, vehicles, and weapons available.  

Arg, I just think the addon community needs to get together and start combining their work so they can make better addons with MANY more weapons and units that are all universal, instead of doing the same work three or more times over.  While right now most of the addons seem to be pointing in different directions, there are alot of general addon work with weapons and vehicles being done.

What does everyone else think?

Hi ,

i think it is very difficult to get this problem solved but i agree, there are to many AddOns of the same vehicle/weapon/unit. Especially for WW2. :'(

IMHO the order for AddOn making should be:

1. Search if that AddOn already exists, if yes maybe you can make a team with the maker
2. Are you really making something new (no, i do not need Rangers in the versions 1975, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2003) at least not in different pbos.
3. Try to join a team for publishing a whole theme setting (AddOn(s), island, mission(s) ).
4. Look for correct tagging and versioning of your AddOn.
5. Make small but high quality AddOns. It is nice to have a F-15, F-16, F18 and F-22 in one pack, but if they behave/look like cr*p i do not want them.
6. Write a Readme including pictures and script commands, Weapon names and your contact adress.
7. Submitt it to a major site.

Only my opion
BTW How about some WW2/Nam style civis (maybe fat, or more sexy dressed) ?

Yeah, i realized that a while ago. Pictures of new M4 weapons and Humvees get sooo boring by now. To have 10 versions of the same addon is a stupid thing imo, i'm just sorry for all the time the developers 'wasted' for it.

But having to DL additional files just to get a single addon to function is even worse !

I am searching thru major addon sites day by day because i collect all sorts of addons that go into different subfolders: nam, wwII, desert, winter, cops&robbers, etc. But it's slowly becoming impossible to keep up with all the different beta versions of certain addon series. I have great difficulties to replace old versions against the newer ones because sometimes the old addons are dependant on other addons. I often find myself getting annoying error messages when installing / replacing addons.

No harsh feelings, but most of the Addon developers seem to be a bit unprofessional.  :-\

WHat Really buggers me is the lack of UAC enforcement on some addons. I was in a Panzer IV F which blew up a King Tiger AND an M1A2 (Most Recent one used in Iraq) in 2 hits!!!!!. And the tank cannon on a Panzer IV was like a 75 mm cannon!!!! Not even the BIS T-55 with a 105mm cannon could take out a Tiger or M1A2 Abrahms in 2 shots!!!!!!!

Anyone know how I can change the values using the Universal Armour Code?


Also more addons of the same thing = more competition and higher quality.
However sometimes its hard to choos which ones you would like to use. EG I have 4 different M4 Shermans!

I think Red Hammer Studios has started to conglomerate  with other East Tank developers - which is a start. If other East specialist units EG the ppl making East Aircraft and another team went to make an East Infantry - it could pave the way for more mergers. However bottom line is we need some competition out there to ensure that the quality of addons are of high quality.

Bad thing is the amount of waffle and bad addons that we need to go through to find the good ones, and the LOOOOOONG time it takes to make one when everyone is divided.

However I dont think their will be many Conglomeration in the days to come since its hard to work with ppl with different goals. SOme addone makers only want detailed models, some want lots of scripting, some want this specific feature that others couldnt be Farked to do etc.

I don't think it makes sense to use the UAC addons together with normal addons like M1 tanks.

However, i can see the point. Things like UAC force ppl to 'stay' with a single addon series rather than to mix addons of the same timeperiod (which is the idea of the whole addon scene).

I think the idea of p00_p00 seems a bit strange but basically he is correct.
The UAC might set the WWII internal Settings for Damage/Armor. But i would not be bad to check a old tank against the new tank.

Because on Handguns we do the same even if you use a WWII 9mm  it should do the same damage as a Modern HK 9mm (at least roughly)

YES OF COURSE ITS A GOOD IDEA

I dont want to see a M4 Sherman take out a T-55.
If the T-55 was in WWII, Russia would have easily overan all of Western Europe.

But the T-55 is underpowerd in 2days standards, but i also dont like to see a PzIV take out a freakin T-90 or a Typed 98!!!!
