Disabling Runways...
« on: 12 Jun 2003, 01:27:50 »
I have an idea to use the laser guided bombs on the A-10 disable a runway.  Simple create an above ground crater addon.  This addon would be like any other static object addon, just a mound of dirt with a hole in the center.  You would then use a script to spawn this crater wherever a bomb lands.  If a bomb lands on a runway, and leaves one of these craters, then any aircraft that attempts to use the runway will crash into the crater and be destroyed....

The G8 mod Tornado could be armed with anti-runway bomblets (basically it could fire a stream of grenades out of the dispenser), if you could implement a script like this into a mission using that particular aircraft, you could seriously damage the runway  ;)

Nope, JDAM is a laser guidance kit for dumb bombs (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/jdam.htm), JP233 is the anti airfield weapon carried by the tornado (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/tornado.htm)

Yeah, JDAM (Joint something Attack Munition) is a stand-off precision guidance system that can be fitted to ordinary dumb bombs. You drop them at high altitude, some distance away from the target, and they glide in and hit the target without you having to go anywhere near the target's AA defences.

Actually JDAMs are guided by the U.S. satellite Global Positioning System or GPS.  They are fire and forget, and don't have to be "painted" by a laser.  (IE it is NOT laser guided, they are guided by GPS).  They are also much cheaper than a laser guided bomb, (a conversion kit to transform a "dumb bomb" into a JDAM costs a little over $18,000), although they aren't quite as accurate as a laser guided bomb.

that bomblet thing ya were talking about is the dispensor on the bottom of the fuselage that is about the size of a small car or so????

they could make the cluster bombs of about any kind that releases bomblets also

i like this idea adds, much needed realism, and also big things that people cant shoot through to hide behind
