Laser Designator
« on: 23 Aug 2002, 20:49:38 »
Could somebody please explain how to get the laser designator to pinpoint where a bomb is dropped, a missile is fired or a unit attacks.  Thanks.

you mean during a mission?  well, you gotta be a laser designator guy, an hav an A10 LGB under your command, when you find your target, order your a10 to the area, and laze it.  the a10 pilot will call out that he sees "Target: laser designator"  once he does this, order him to target "laser designator" via the radio.

Is there any way to do this with a unit not in your group by means of radio?

the a10 doesn't have to be in your group, he'll just bum around a bit before dropping one.

Hi mates,

have played around a lot with the designator (also in the OH-58).

Let me tell you that the A-10 (LGB) will throw the bombs near the target but not exactly on them.
So if you want to have a tank bombed in a middle of a village it may causes civilian casualties.

But the hellfire missiles can be also laserguided!
So you can use two or three Apaches do get a target (even more) defenitly destroyed...only the target!

A lil' problem is that if the Apaches are armed with all of there "normal" weapons the crew may likes to choose an other (not laserguided) one first and starts to fire with it.

That can be fixed with only loading hellfires in the Apaches.

Init:removeallweapons this; this addweapon "HellfireLauncherApach"; this addmagazine "Hellfire"; ...

Obviously you didn't play the sample mission. The bombs hit the target very precisely. The civilian casualities are caused by the big ass explosion of the bomb.

The sample mission does not work if there are other enemy units besides the laser designator.  How do you make the A10 target the designator only and then get out of there without hanging around and attacking others.
