change to the signature guidelines...
« on: 13 Feb 2007, 20:38:59 »
as of this evening we are changing our site guidelines regarding signatures. we will no longer be permitting images to be used in sigs. this is for a number of reasons, the most important being

a) they can be distracting to the content of posts (and OFPEC is, after all, all about content)
b) they increase the length of pages, meaning it takes longer to find what you need
b) they eat up bandwidth

this change will affect very few users - literally a handful - and text signatures are still welcome.

I very much support this kind of movement!

If I were to decide, there would be no signatures at all

You are going into the right direction. All it takes is a quick look into the official forums to see what kind of mess can be created with loose rules about signatures...

Makes the job for moderators a bit easier. You could even make an automated check so that the website would simply reject images in signatures, requiring no actions from moderators.
