Martin King is the local editor of a small Tonali newspaper named
The Lorengau Evangelist. This is the story of his life, when a small but dirty civil war errupts on the Tonal islands. I need some input on my work in progress before I proceed. The story is the sequeal to my campaign
Blue Skies, that you'll find in the pending section of the Missions Depot. The main elements of the story are already fixed. I need ideas for short missions, that can be included along with the main story.
The story so far:Following an unusually long dry season, famine spreads across the Tonali islands. The shortage of food causes an economic crisis for the export industry, and a socialist guerilla operating from the jungles, takes advantage of the civil unrest and demands a new election.
The president postpones the elections and asks the United Nations for support. UN turns down his request, but a small US force of military advisors is sent to aid the Tonali government. This was the political background from the Blue Skies I campaign. Let's move on to Blue Skies II...
The
Lorengau Evangelist's demands are that the planned elections must be held. Thus
Martin King finds himself in a dilemma. As an editor, he must argue for democracy and organize peaceful protest meetings.
But he is surrounded by a familfy, friends and neighbours, who are all plantation workers and therefore semi loyal to the armed guerilla forces. They want him to take part in a revolution.
The first mission sets the mood for the campaign. A riot errupts at a nearby plantation. Armed rebels open fire on government forces (and vice versa). At the same time protest meetings are organized on nearby farms.
Martin King's objectives are to simple: Just travel around on a small portion of the map and witness what is happening at the plantations, in the villages and small towns in the Lorengau Valley.
In the second mission I want him to attend one of these protest meetings, when it turns into a stone throwing riot. After that I want the campaign to divert along two separate story lines.
Martin King will have the option to continue to "fight" with peaceful means, or too join the armed wing of the socialist guerilla. But I don't want to take the easy way out, and kill of his entire family just to get the story going (like in Resistance).
I want the choice between the pen and the sword to be aviliable in every mission after the second one. Depending on player actions, every single mission may either turn out to be a bloody brushfire war or a sneaky stealth mission, where
Martin King tries to do his job without resorting to violence (and this will of course be difficult).
So far I've started to elaborate on the following ideas (missions are about 50% done):
- Transport some documents for newspaper without getting caught in road blocks. If Martin King choses to bring weapons along on this trip, it becomes more difficult to pass the road blocks. But then of course he also has the option to use the guns
- Going into the jungle to interview a guerilla leader. Martin King has to use stealth to avoid american/government patrols along the way. In the guerilla camp he meets the rebel leader and discover that there's a US soldier held prisoner in the camp. There will be an option to save the prisoners, or just leave him to his destiny.
- A simple "join the guerilla" mission, where Martin King becomes a regular grunt in a seek and destroy operation. During the operation Martin King witnesses an american spec. ops squad sent to do some dirty work in a small village. The options at the end of the mission will be: Stay with the guerillas or sneak off and return home.
Now I need more ideas. Tell me what you think and feed me with interesting dilemmas of similar nature. A small teaser pack of the upcomming campaign will be released in a couple of weeks, but the main story is intended for Armed Assault (if it is released as promised).
