Review by kuroOverviewNice picture without frame; one page. IntroYou see an Intro of a LSSC travelling a river in Vietnam and getting captured. You can call me a historical nitpicker but the meaning of LSSC is Light Seal Support Craft, therefore the crew are either SEALs or Brown Water NAVY, not Marines. Maybe it should be changed to a PBR (Patrol Boat River). BriefingThen you find a very good Briefing with a nice weapon selection; not too much, not too little. Even a picture of your local scout is included. MissionThe mission itself starts in a small Special Forces camp. There you have a truck and a jeep at your disposal. You move your squad to a river crossing and you are confronted with your first problem: how to cross the river? If you have solved this and survived the welcome party on the other side, you enter a heavily patrolled NVA area. Then you recon a NVA base where the lost crew members are probably held as POWs. To give the later planned assault on this base a chance of success, you have to destroy a mortar site south of the base. This leads to a hard fight... Overall(Review Date: Feb 2004) The mission is very well made, especially for an OFP Nam mission (there are not many excellent missions for this Mod to choose from). The setting is very good, the mission itself is very good. But it also contains some things which could be improved to have a "Wow, what a mission!" feeling. First, the sound should be reworked: as you crawl through the jungle of Vietnam you hear nothing! Please put some frog sounds near the river, some birds and locusts in the jungle, and some chicken sounds in the village. There are also some Vietnamese sound samples around to let the NVA soldiers yell some orders if you attack them. Second, the Intro and Outro are very standard; a little improvement would be nice. Another thing which is a little bit strange is the radio: it is no problem, but my radio always has the order "Alpha", and I never found out what use it is. Have I missed something? So, as final sentence, I can say the mission is very good and with some small improvement it could be excellent. Pros: Cons: |
