Summary

Russia has invaded a Finnish-habited island. And what ensues? The best of the worst, angry old-timers put on their Jussi-paita, stick knives in their sheaths and go on a rampage.

Review by Artak

Overview

The Russians have invaded a Finnish island. Frustrated by the bureaucracy of the Finnish government, the time comes for the angry men in the woods to act.

Pool
2*4 and 1*8 man squads all for FDF Hunter units (Resistance). One starting parameter to choose difficulty from default to hard to elite.

Intro

Intro is different for all of the three groups. In other words, you'll get a different Intro depending on which group you're in. All the Intros show the respective group in their starting position spiced up with some music.

Briefing

Read the briefing well! I can only emphazise it to you so much. It's imperative that you fully understand what you're there to do. There's a lot going on, but the briefing has all the needed information for you to know what to do and how to do it.

All in all, the briefing is very good and detailed. A small, reservist-style, weapon selection is provided.

Mission

Oh boy, where do I start. The mission still has me gasping.
You're, as FDF reservists (Hunter units), hiding in the woods for permission to start action against the Russians. Orders are to aid a FDF airborne unit on their way to Varta. Unfortunately, Varta is an enemy AA base reinforced with a nearby Armored unit. This is where your task begins.

The briefing explains two different approaches for the 8-man squad. Either search for some AT weapons, or try to take out the tank squad's crew when they're not prepared. As for the two 4-man squads, their task is to take out enemy AA positions on nearby locations with Kasapanos explosives.

From the beginning, the weaponry is something you could imagine stashed away by Grandpa Irwing some 30 years ago. You'll soon find out that taking out Shilkas with a Kasapanos is much more challenging than doing it with a modern AT weapon. This adds a lot of atmosphere to the mission.

After surviving the first part of this long coop, you'll find yourself with the airborne unit and two working T-72 tanks if lucky. Then you need to use your head. I'll give you a little hint. Look around Jorma's house near Varta. There's more to it then just a weapons stash.

The mission just keeps on going and going. You'll have to work together and make smart use of the T-72s you hopefully salvaged. You're in for attacking, demolishing and defending. Most importantly this mission yells for good teamwork!

Always remember to read / listen to everything you see very carefully. This includes the briefing as well as the in-game radio chats.

When you're done with all the bad guys and still alive, two FDF choppers come pick you up. I smell a sequel.

Special

Voice acting.

Overall

(Review Date: Aug 2005) This is a textbook example of what a great cooperative mission should be. It's long enough, hard enough and most importantly it tests your teamwork skills. There's no room for running and shooting it rambo style. Well, maybe a bit, but it's most important to have a good team leader and men who follow him by the letter. A truly outstanding experience. OFPEC approved.
