Review by WispOverview'A man who will criticize you openly carries no deception,' says the Book of the Samurai and in that spirit, here's my honest opinion about toadlife's first mission, 'Suicidal Samurai'. MissionYou are a lone scout, ordered to sneak up on an enemy encampment and eyeball their combat readiness. As a secondary objective, you are asked to destroy any aircraft you find. Although this sounds fine in theory, the problem is that the primary objective is a bit of a joke... you accomplish it after a few minutes just by walking in the right direction. Your choice is then to retreat and finish the mission without having fired a shot... or unleash hell with those satchels you brought along. You can guess where the real fun is - I suppose that's why the mission is called 'Suicidal Samurai'. Overall(Review Date: Mar 2002) With patience and good aim, you can finish this mission in about 10 minutes; it's short but pleasant. I wish the author had spent a little more time tweaking enemy reactions to the alarm to create a more satisfying challenge. In closing, this mission has some obvious ommissions but no major fun-spoiling flaws. If you like missions that you can just load up and play through quickly, especially those of the 'lone ninja' variety, you might find brief entertainment in this early toadlife endeavour. Pros: Atmosphere, good placement of objects and units, focus on stealth |
