Review by Shark AttackOverviewContains an unusual author made picture, which could have been presented better with a border and faded edges. The text does its job and is short and to the point. IntroNot one of the good ones. The opening scene starts promisingly enough with some nice unit placement to compensate for the mission time setting. Unfortunately the second scene fails miserably. It is far too dark, the player struggles to see the boats inserting the fire teams, being left only able to hear them. The use of night vision in camera scripting or simply changing the time of insertion would have enhanced the intro greatly. BriefingThe briefing contains just enough information to let the player know what has to be done, it is well presented and easy to understand with working markers to objectives. The notes section contains more info on the mission including instructions on the use of radio to enable music in-game, and mission credits. Your four-man fire team are all experienced soldiers and have a well balanced weapon selection available for a mission of this type. MissionA full frontal assault is on the menu with this mission. You lead one of eight four-man fire teams so you will have plenty of company which as the mission progresses proves to be vital. The balance of Blufor - Opfor units is just right making the mission objectives achievable. The mission plays well, it is action packed and it contains no show-stopping bugs. However the mission lacks a lot of polish. The objectives are sparse to say the least, more time in the editor creating better defences would have increased the eye candy factor. Radio texts from your base update you throughout the mission giving reports on mission status and air support status; sadly these texts are unaccompanied by sounds and can be somewhat of a distraction when the fighting becomes intense. You can disable them by using the radio but this does make things somewhat confusing. Also the air support which arrives is somewhat of a damp squib. As if doomed to fail, again radio messages inform you when air units are downed. This is an opportunity missed by the author. A chance for the player to react to downed aircraft would have brought a much needed dose of randomness to the mission. Outro(s)Always nice to see one on completing a mission but like the intro, this is not one of the good ones. A short cutscene is played, however static infantry and a passing tank or two along with token text are all it has to offer. SpecialNone. OverallA very good first attempt at a mission, but sadly lacking where it counts. The mission contains very little scripting and it shows. Although the night-time setting along with some of the firefights which erupt around you add to the atmosphere it could have been enhanced. The lack of custom voices or sounds leave the mission wanting. Also the enemy AI (although skilled) offer no randomness in their behavior or patrol routes, greatly affecting the replayability of the mission. Worth downloading for 30 minutes of shoot 'em up fun. |
