Review by snYpirOverviewThe Overview is short but sweet, and has the obligatory picture. It certainly grabbed my attention: this was no ordinary OFP mission. IntroThe Intro is lengthy and well done, with an appropriate musical score and smooth camera commands utilised to create a fantastic mood. Especially well done is the white background and black text fade out near the start of the intro. Cutscene makers take note! It seemed that a whole heap of bad dudes were nailing a heap of good dudes, and as the local "sheriff" it is your job to fix the situation, backed up by a rather cowardly offsider*. One thing I didn't like was the text overlay which was always in the center of the screen; I prefer subtitles to be at the bottom of the screen. A minor point, however. * Australian term for a partner or assistant. BriefingThe Briefing is quite good - it leaves you in no doubt as to what you are required to do. The 'Situation Report' on the Notes page is also a good idea. Perhaps a little more background detail on the crims would not go astray? Anyway, I grabbed my pistol and clicked 'Continue'... MissionFrom here the action is quite Rainbow Six-ish - and one thing that I quite quickly realised is that OFP is not Rainbow Six. Sluggish AI in urban environments has always been a problem in OFP, but you still need to use your head to not get popped off by a bad dude at 100m. And oh, how I missed my M-60! It is really weird to start a mission with nothing but a pistol. I won't ruin the storyline, but safe to say that there are numerous objectives that build to a fitting climax. Outro(s)The outro is quite moody and well scripted. SpecialThe music selector is a very good idea - perhaps you could submit a code snippet on this to the Ed Depot, Gameer? Overall(Review Date: Nov 2002) In all, this is a well thought-out mission that takes OFP to a new level. However, it is very easy, and desperately needs to be made into a campaign. The mission just seems to end, which is a little disappointing. More background on the bad dudes is needed as well (rather than a bunch of guys that commit random acts of violence). Download this mission and give it a go - this is the sort of mission that will keep OFP alive for a very long time to come. Well done, Gameer! Now make more of these! |
