Rescue a captured engineer held up in a mountain SLA camp with the mechanized infantry. The two things in your way: SLA troops and a large foggy mountain pass.

Review by Cheetah

Enough information is provided to start the search mission prepared for the worst. There is not too much information, something easily done in multiplayer missions, but the right amount split into different pages all accessible from the plan section.

The objectives work and are properly linked to markers on the map. Although these are in French, it shouldn't be too hard to get a grasp of what they are for combined with the briefing text. However, ones in English could be handy for those not into reading the briefing (bad boy).

Finally, there is no weapon selection in this mission. This could have been handy for those not too fond of the standard infantryman's weapons. Therefore, a small weapon selection would be nice, but it definitely isn't required to make the mission enjoyable.

SERVER: Loki's Nightmare

A mechanized squad got ambushed, there is one survivor taken prisoner by the SLA, held in a mountain camp. Your objective? Set him free after maneuvering yourself and the AI support through a narrow mountain pass. This mission by SPhoenix isn't one of the most original missions out there, but it doesn't have to be in order to be enjoyable.

What this mission shines in is its playability. There are no bugs and it is easy to get used to the mission flow making it useful for a warmup for more serious maps or public server play. One bonus is that there is no addon requirement making it easy to get enough players on the server. Once you are settled into playing, the difficulty is low. But that contributes to Call of Duty being an enjoyable mission to play.

Some things could have been fixed, but don't severely affect the gameplay. The most notorious are the French words appearing at the map and in the role-assign screen. Next to that, the polishing could have been better. For example assigning a callsign to the M113 or having custom voices. But, this doesn't imply that you won't have fun playing this mission.

The interaction with the AI controlled M113 is handy and requires some coordination between human players to protect their armour. Also, there is the often used revive script by norrin that makes it an enjoyable mission to play and suitable for public servers.

While this mission isn't one of the best, or most enjoyable it works properly and is enjoyable to play. Even on public servers you will be able to get a good play out of it thanks to the revive options presented to you.

There are some points which could have been improved upon, like the few markers in French, or more important the difficulty of the way towards the enemy camp. The length of the mission isn't stunning either.

Play this one as a warmup for other missions, enjoy this one with your friends in a mission that works. Don't play this one if you look for something thrilling, difficult and long lasting or dynamic. Therefore, this one gets a fat six as final score.

+  Scripted scenes
+  Revive respawn
+  Easy enough to be enjoyable
-  Not too long
-  Too easy for serious play
-  Few dynamic mission elements
