Review by mathias_eichingerOverviewThe overview has everything it needs. This means a good action-packed picture, some lines of text, as well as the author`s name and the mission`s version number. IntroAn intro was not provided with this mission. BriefingThe Briefing is very short and to the point, which means that there are only a few lines of text, in the plan as well as in the notes section. The author makes no attempt at constructing a story or telling about the background of this battle. An immersion of the player via diary entries in the notes section could have been an option too. All these things would have spiced up the briefing and could help the player's identification with the mission. MissionThe mission throws the player right into the action, no gentle beginnings or mental preparations for the task at hand are possible. To be more precise, the player is thrown into the gunner seat of a T-72 tank platoon, right in the middle of an all-out attack that proceeds through the oilfields of South Sahrani. The atmosphere of this mission is just great, scores of tanks are facing and battling each other, explosions shatter the battlefield and smoke from burning tanks darkens the sky while enemy infantry falls under the merciless MG fire of your own tanks. If you are a quick and good shot, you quickly deal with all the threats and the mission is over in about 10 minutes when you reach the US base. However, as you might discover on a replay, the US forces are definitely not defenceless. They field quite a few tanks and their infantry carries a fair amount of AT rockets. More often than not, your tank could be heavily damaged, and since repair is not an option, you find yourself as a lowly, vulnerable foot soldier on the battlefield. Now tactics are a bit more important and you want to have that wall of T-72 steel between you and the numerous enemy foot soldiers. But watch it, standing close to an exploding tank is definitely not healthy. At any rate, the own tanks will defeat the enemy forces rather quick, and the mission ends again when you reach the city. Outro(s)This mission lacks an outro. SpecialNothing special about this one, I am afraid. A short, action-packed mission with only one objective and lack of story elements. OverallBottom line: A short "lunch-break" mission, that you can complete quickly because it has only one objective. Sadly, it is lightweight regarding story and briefing too. There is some replay value however, since you end up as a foot soldier, once you are a bit lazy at the gun sight. |
