Welcome to Takistan

A stand-alone expansion pack for Arma2 was announced today. Operation Arrowhead will be presented at GameCon in Cologne, Germany, August 19th-23rd. The new conflict zone is allegedly located in the fictional country of Takistan and portrays the US Army as the main Blufor faction.

Three years after the conflict in Chernarus, portrayed in the original Arma2, a new flashpoint in the Green Sea region heats up and coalition forces led by the US Army are sent to Takistan to quickly restore peace and prevent further civilian casualties. So far that's all that has been revealed of the new storyline.

In a press release from IDEA Games the expansion is described as follows:

"Set into central Asia, Operation Arrowhead will offer a modern day setting. Players will enlist into various roles within the US Army, from basic infantrymen, through special operatives, to pilots and tank crew in this new installment in the award winning line up of military simulators for PC from Bohemia Interactive."

The press release clearly describes Operation Arrowhead as a stand-alone expansion pack, without any clarification as to what that means, but the German magazine 4players.de describes it as an addon, much like Red Hammer and Resistance for Operation Flashpoint, or Queens Gambit for Armed Assault.

According to Bohemia Interactive developer Ohara the expansion pack will also allow BI to speed up the bug-fixing in the original game.

"It will help us to polish the engine and add things that were only work in progress (in the original release). Due to Arma2 development there was not time to finish them" he says in the BI Forums.
