Continuing our Spotlights series for March, "Clayman" stands center stage.
He's been with OFPEC - at least this incarnation of OFPEC - from the beginning: he joined in 2002, his member ID is 15. Since that time he's been answering editing questions, testing missions and addons, writing reviews, processing resources and generally being an all-round stand-up helpful individual, both on this site and elsewhere in the wider BIS Community.
To this day, Wolfrug is an indispensable part of the OFPEC machine. Time for an interview.
Checking through my emails this afternoon I discovered a conversation I had last year with OFPEC old-timer Toadlife, who was one of the movers and shakers in the early days and was responsible for keeping the site afloat during some of the difficult times.
I'd intended to publish this immediately, but RL must have got in the way. Better late than never, I suppose...
In researching the history of OFPEC, I've had a chance to talk to some of the key figures responsible for laying the foundations of what it is today. snYpir played a vital role in maintaining and expanding the site in the early days, and went on to become an employee of Bohemia Interactive. The following are some extracts from our email conversations.
James Mcnicoll aka "Planck"
15th December 1952 - 7th April 2010
OFPEC Site Admin Planck joined the site in 2002, the early days of the Community. His forum sig says "I know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little", which is a surprisingly apt description. Planck had skills and interests in many areas, yet practiced his crafts relatively quietly and without fanfare. So who was he?
When Bedges, Planck and I sat down and started this interview almost a year ago, Planck was reluctant to answer the questions. It wasn't until recently that he responded to the questions that Bedges and I came up with. Planck didn't need that kind of recognition to feel great about helping someone out with their project, no matter the skill level of the person. Whether it be modelling or configs, or texturing or islands, there isn't a single aspect of the game that he didn't have his fingers into or some knowledge about.
Planck's breadth of knowledge about the game, his drive to be as accurate as possible, and his friendly nature will not be forgotten. The staff of OFPEC will sure miss such a great legend.
We haven't sat down and done an interview in a long while. For the most part the staff has been tweaking the site almost daily, fixing bugs adding features, living our lives in the web. When do we get to play Armed Assault or Operation Flashpoint? Basically hardly ever: we're so involved in providing an enjoyable experience to our users we sometimes forget to sit down and have fun with the game itself.
It might be that you have not heard of our next interview guest, however his Internet portal is one of the community's most visited sites and has been since the very early days of Operation Flashpoint. If you need addons or an injection of community news then you should head on over to www.armedassault.info and, in the old days, www.ofp.info. Cervo agreed to answer some of our questions only on the condition that he could post the news first!
In this edition of OFPEC Interviews we delve deep into the world of CTI (Capture The Island) and Anti Cheat systems by Doolittle. For those who are new to ArmA, Doolittle produced some very popular respawn scripts for Operation Flashpoint including CTI missions and he is now releasing beta versions of his CTI system for ArmA.
OFPEC is interested in learning more about the Bohemia Interactive community, and we'd like to thank Doolittle for chatting with us about some of the interesting projects he has going on in the ArmA multi-player world.
It's almost impossible to describe the contribution that our old friend Artak has made to OFPEC. A member from the very early years, he's seen the highs and lows, and he's always been there to celebrate the good times, and support and nurture OFPEC through the bad. Real life pressures recently forced Artak to retire from OFPEC, but he's still around, offering his sage advice and talking to anyone who'll listen about The Hoff...
We decided it was time he stand up and be counted for his continued excellence.
