« on: 13 Jul 2008, 18:36:24 »
How does one convert an ofp addon into an arma one?

I know its been done, such as GIGAN's SCUD,  but how?

Thanx for the replies, as always.

Depends if you do a simple conversion or a proper converstion
Simple: couple days, quick and dirty

Proper:
- Convert multiple textures to merged format
- Fix model mapping problems caused by merged format
- Find and replace any BIS's own OFP textures used
- Create full Skeleton definition
- Create full Model definition
- Define damage animations
- Generate normal maps
- Generate spectra maps
- Generate normal RVMATs
- Generate damage RVMATs
- Research vehicle ingame dynamics by experiementing with config
- Redo most ammo, magazine and weapon definitions
- Redo cargo/driver/gunner actions in config
- New icons and picture icons
- Convert most sqs files to sqf
- Create Shadow LODs in p3d
- redo people and weapon proxys in p3d

As I said elsewhere, 320hrs into converting Footmunchs Su33 to ArmA, and I'm only 3/4 finished  ::)

Holy CRAP!!

I can understand that you, Gnat, are a dedicated worker as evidenced by your dutiful fulfilling of your duties as an OFPEC Staff, but...
Holy crap!

I, personally, just want a model of the MLRS, you know, the treads, the cab, the  rocket launcher casing, but also have the rocket launcher turreted, proper drive systems, not necessarily a firable weapon, but have it capable of rotating and all that, of course have it all textured and have it so there's enough 'whatever' so you can't walk through it due to lack of collision detection, have decent armour, and do this in spite of my lack of config and other addon inexperience, and on a budget of 5 american dollars, 2 swiss francs, 40 chines yuan, and a handful of international common sense.   :D  ;)

So...

I hope that's not asking too much!

It was in the OFP CoC pack right? Seen it somewhere.
All do-able I think Luke, but your budget may be a little high ;)

Gnat,

I can't tell, are you proposing to help me/donate to the common sense part of the budget?  ;)  :P

The link is www.thechainofcommand.net

and yes it is part of its Unified Artillery v1.1 "Battle Kings" with the DL link here.

So I'd need someone with serious guidance over my shoulder, so either you or Wolfrung.

Anyway if this is, indeed, what your are proposing, I would appreciate all the help I could get!!

Do get back to me on this!!

lol ... I'm not going to do it for you. Too many projects as it is.
You start and we'll help when ever you hit a particular problem.
.... your first hurdle before you waste your time, getting permission.

Or for as something as blocky as that, start your own.
You can always examine the OFP 3d model for guidance.

OK, different approach.

If Gigan can do it, so can I.

Despite my lack of config knowledge...
or model knowledge...
or texture knowledge...
or of appropriate tools...
or of ofp versions of all the above...

but I can still do it!!

Alright Lets start with the model, and texture.

Where can I find them??  :)
