If you like Tanks, this is a must have addon!!
« on: 25 Apr 2004, 13:07:54 »
il give you a link l8r on but if you like tanks, you are british or wish you were british and you want a addon of the most advanced tank in the world then get the DKM challanger 2!

http://www.dkm-mod.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=26&func=fileinfo&parent=category&filecatid=31

Note: To all Americans or anyone who will try and defend their countries MBT. The challenger 2 has got the most advanced armour (CHOBHAM; which no other country knows how to make), most advanced fire control system, most powerful weapon and while the engine "only" develpes 1200hp, which is les than the M1A2 its advanced gear box makes it more effective cross country. So basicaly i now a hell of a lot bout tanks so i dont wish to have any noob comments like the M1A2 is better than the chalenger 2. coupled with the fact british troops are trained to a higher standard than any other army it is a formidable flighting machine!

enjoy the mod!

I think you mean M1A1.

I already have this addon, I have had it for weeks.

Have you only just discovered it?

If I'm not mistaken, the Abrams has Chobham armor, too - you gave it to us  :)

It's a nice looking tank though.

nope i am right the m1a2. the m1 was the first  of the abrams and had a 105mm gun but then upgraded to a 120mm gun with more advanced armour (not chobham) and fire control system. the latest model is the m1a2 which with many other little improvments is a very advanced battle tank. the noticeable difference between either version is this.

if you look at the turret on the top, the front, top part of the turret that is infront of the reloaders hatch, on the m1 there is nothing, just the flat plate of steel. on the m1a1 there is a circle of metal with bolts around it and on the m1a2 the commanders inderpendant viewer sits there. hope you undersntad, if you dont please post back as i am interested in the topic.

and no the m1a2 doesnot have chobham, it has an advanced alloy of steel armour but it is not chobham, we would not be that thick to trade!  ;D

i wonder how the uk forces mod chalenger 2 will compare to this one? when will the ukforces mods be available?

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/m1-intro.htm

Says here that the original M-1 used "Chobham spaced armor."  Doesn't specify whether or not this was changed but I would assume not.

As for differences between the tanks, yeah, the M1 had a 105, the M1A1 had the 120, and the M1A2 has the CITV and some other goodies.

The -A2 is definitely one of the best tanks in service for tank-on-tank combat (doesn't fare so well when you toss in some infantry >:()

the Challanger 2 and M1A2 are pretty equal actual..
and sicne they don't really engage each other in combat, a side from war games and a few Blue on Blue incidents, we will never know wich is a really better tank.. all that matters is that the M1A2 and challanger 2 can rip through russian tanks. and the DKM mod's Challanger 2 is under gunned and under armoured.. it is a nice add-on tho after i fixed it.

Anyway, I downloaded it..... >:(
I get a DKMM_tankname needs addon DKKMod or something :|
What other addons do I need to make it work?

can someone clear up these facts for me though. Every single tank image of the briytish army that has been depoyed in Iraq (desert conditions) always has aplique armour which in the DMK addon is the Challenger 2 DU. The same goes for the warrior and has extra armour, But i have enver seen any tanks deployed in forest enviroment have allique armour all the tanks deployed in britian, kosovo etc all (in refernce to DKM mod) are Challenger 2G? WHY? why do they need extra armour in deserr and not in forest?

I agree with the under armoured and unde gunned. A challnger 1 (in previous gulf) shot one of its APSFDS at a T72  at a range of 500m, the projectile went throught the T72 (destroying it) and carried on to destroy another T72, no joke, i aint saying that to defend the tank, so if the C2 main gun is newer more accurate, more powerful projectiles (a tank in iraq was engaged and destroyed at a range of 5100meters, by one shot), please tell me how you ediited the mod to resolve these problems?

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!

Ps. go back to the DKM web site and get the RSC patch in the download area, that will make the addon work!

no it just means the british tank crew pay  more attention or that they did not radio their position in.

and why is there no upped armour used in forests?
well that is because thoses places they are deployed to are not hot active war zones. iraq is. the upped armour is just added plates to the normal tank. they are heavy and slow the tank down. so are only needed in active combat zones.

as for how to edit it. de-pbo it de-binzie the config and edit it tho i beleive it's ammo is in the rsc_script pbo but i forget it has been away since i fixed it. and they made it that way to be balanced with default BIS tanks wich is dumb since a default BIS T80 can beat the challanger 2 in game.. when in reality it would not.
another note. add a extra crew man to each tank in the cargo position and it's rate of fire will increase.

Whee! a technical debate on advanced weapon systems :D

Fist of all, crew skill is hands down the most decisive factor in terms of weapon system effectiveness.  I am in the US Army and I have also trained extensively with Brits (my instructors at the ILRRPS Sharpshooter's Course were SAS in fact), so perhaps I have a unique perspective on this end.  I can say that I have the utmost respect for the quality of the British Army in general-very proffessional bunch!  On the other side of the argument, I believe our tankers do have a signifigant edge in terms of combat experience. The more you fight, the better you get (or you die).

On a side note though, as a Sniper, I have not had the "pleasure" of being shot at directly by the enemy (I'm much too sneaky for them to ever nail my position down  :)).  The only time I have ever been directly fired upon was when a M3A2 CFV I was in was engaged by the M240C coax of a friendly M1A2!  It was during live fire training at Ft. Carson CO.-not combat, and apparantly a brand new crew was a little jumpy on the trigger, and thought we were a "truck" target on the range.  I guess we were lucky the they didn't think we were a main gun target.  So I guess I'm not really 100% happy with our new tank crew's skill level after all.

About the Armor...While the exact composition of the armor is classified, enough data exists to make a pretty good guess.  It is "rumored" to be a composite sandwich of a specially hardened steel, depleted uranium, ceramic (very brittle but nearly as hard as diamond), and an alluminium honeycomb filled with an ablative (fire retardent) gel to counter HEAT weapons.  An interesting tid-bit:  M1 series armour repair specialists must have a security clearance, and when an M1 in our unit was damaged, exposing the internal structure of the armour, a tent was erected around it, and the repair specialists were wearing Haz-Mat suits and protective HEPA style masks (presumably to protect against particulate DU).

The frontal armor of the M1 series is virtually impervious as a friendly fire incident during the first gulf war illustrates: An M1 was hit by a friendly APFSDS DU "silver bullet", and the round still failed to penetrate fully (although the crew was understandably shaken up).  To put this in perspective, that round is capable of penetrating several meters of soil comprising a hull down tank firing position, and then emerge with enough energy to fully penetrate the soviet main battle tank hiding in it :) true sh*t.

While I doubt this will settle the debate, I hope this was interesting.

well if you have ever worked with fiber composits you would know that you usual wear nearly a hazmat suit.. cuz most of that stuff is not good for you. in fact the paint used for painting composites has cyinide it in. but that is a different matter.
they also wear the suits in case the enemy or firely ammo was a DU around among other issues. it just on the side of health.

that is interesting! but in regards to the American soldiers, even in that post their are many counts of the crews Friendly firing. Why is a recruit that has a "trigger finger" controling the weapon of that size? friendly fire is due to stress and il expeirience. i high portion of brit troops in the latest gulf were shot due to american friendly fire. One example, an American anti aircraft crew shot at a Brit AH-64D (since when do iraqis have them?) at close range, the pilot landed next to the AA system as he walked over and the crew apoligised, the pilot wlaked over and knocked out the gunner, boarded his helo and flew off. THAT IS JUST INCOMPETANT!, on the americans side!

Could you exaplian in a little more detail how to edit the Tank again? Tell me as if i have dont have a clue what you are on aout, never done it before and basicaly clueless. i realy want to do this though!!

this is turning into a good post, keep at the posts coming in.

In terms of the addon armour, is it solid chobham armour, or is it explosive reactive armour?

EDIT: GRRRRR.. just een playing with this tank in the editor and basically 2 shots from any tank can imobilise this tank. it would take another 4 to destroy ir but after 2 shots near the main gun, the tank is a right off!!..please reply quickly and clearly so i can ectify this anoying bit!!

I am not at all well versed in config.cpp editing, but I'll try to help...

Download the PBO-Decryptor and Make PBO applications from the editor depot page here at OFPEC.  Next, run the PBO-Decryptor, which will extract all the files that make up the addon.  Look for a file named Config.cpp, and open it with windows Notepad or Wordpad, and sift through all the lines of code.  I don't know what the specific lines are that determine the armor values for the tank, but if you look around, experiment, and cross you fingers you should be able to figure it out.  If the tank has it's own ammo specific for the addon, the damage values will be in the config as well, if it just uses stock BIS ammo, then you would have to define a whole new class and such (and someone else has to help you with that).

good luck

now im stumped here is an example of the sort of code i see in the config.bin file

ªinitAngleY     «minAngleY ˆÿÿÿ ¬maxAngleY +120 ®initFov 333?¯minFov =
×>°maxFov Å¡â„¢Y? ±Animations   ²Y_ind   ³type Â'rotation µan

i dont have a clue where to start changing stuff or what to change or how to change it, am i doing something wrong or am i nearly there?

it looks like its machine code...My CPU with OFP is down till tommorow (so I can't verify) but the pbo might be bianarized (encrypted) by the author, or I could just be speaking entirely out of my fourth point of contact (a$$) ;).

-Grendel

erm...Did you use PBO ENcryptor or DEcryptor? If you used encryptor, you probably re-encrypted the pbo.  You need to use the pbo decryptor.

Also, look for a config.cpp not the .bin

i had a look at the config and you can change the armor but to change the weapons power you would have to edit the whole DKMM_RSC file
Code: [Select]
ammo="DKMM_RSC_Shell125";
      reloadtime=5
      count=32
      displayName="L27A1 (CHARM 3)";
      displayNameMagazine="L27A1 (CHARM 3)";
      shortNameMagazine="L27A1 (CHARM 3)";
      sound[]={"\DKMM_RSC\sounds\cr2_120mm.wss",10,1};
      reloadSound[]={"\dkmm_rsc\sounds\autoreload.wss","db-10",1};
      backgroundreload=0
      nameSound="heat";
      canLock=2
so it would be possible but you might end up messing up alot dkm addons :-\

What if you just defined a whole new ammo class in the DKMM_RSC file, and then modified the challenger addon to use the new ammo?  This would keep the other addons from being affected.

well i definetly used the decryptor and the only config file i see is the config.bin

i tried decompressing another file and that had a notepad config.cpp but the one for the dkm challenger there is not .cpp file at all

am i opening the correct file. once the file is extracted you get the readme file and the DKMM_CR2.pbo and i find the dkmm_cr2.pbo file and decompresses

any other suggestions? hoe exactly did you get that oyman?
