Animal Addons
« on: 31 Aug 2003, 18:40:21 »
I think that an animal addon would be cool: I'm no expert and I don't know a thing about modle creating  ???
But it would be cool to have animals moving or static: just to add to the scenery :hmm:

this has been mentioned before.

in OFP it's not possible to have animals unless they are just static objects (there's a guard dog somewhere)

OFP2 may have animals I've read somwhere, but i doubt they'll be of much use except maybe guard dogs.

... on second thoughts, herd of animals getting spooked and giving away a unit's position would be good.....

anyway, AI animals - not possible

Would it not be possible to build an animal based on a vehicle structure? It wouldn't look that good but still... it should be possible. A cow based on a T80! It could go "moo" when you hit fire! Or shoot cowpats out of its arse :D . You could maybe even do leg animations... after all, the vehicles each have wheel animations so you could do it as an extention to that. It would look reaaaaallllly weird though.

Is it possible to have seagulls flying around? You can actually play a seagull in the Multiplayer maps they made (the co-operative ones) once you're dead. Can they be used in a mission? That'd be cool.

Hey that idea kicks cows ass. Get in Cow as driver  :joystick: "All get in cow 12 o'clock"  ;D Exploding cows  ??? - it seems possible enough!

 :gunman: :gunman: :gunman: :booty:

That would be fun*

my mod is working on a horse, that pulls an artillery, but now at time we stopped, because we do hard in texturing the hors, animations are also needed

It's the great assault mod. if it will work, that i don't know yet!!!

i thought it was impossible! at least realtistically...

hangs head in shame....

mind you it still is impossible realistically.  i would still love to hear "2, get in cow, gunner!" though.  that would make me laugh!  ;D

It is possible....just have it as a civilian, give it animations and all....what happens when a civilian hears gunshots? they run (if you have setunitpos "up" on)...so you fire a gunshot near a cow and it runs...its theoretically possible just a lot of hard work.

first we have to correct the model. the legs where too rigidly (can i say so? hope u know what i mean)
then, we look further.
the animation would not be such a problem! we have a very talented animationmaker!!! ;D

"2, cow commander, get in, cow"

Unfortunately it would only say "tank commander" and "vehicle". Oh well, it's a funny idea.

*gets in cow, turns engine on*

And yes, the leg animations would be the biggest problem. They would stop in midstep.

Why dont u just make a retextured civilian that looks like a monkey? thats the easiest animal to make. and dont forget u could just make static animals.

Watch those cows, they'll fire a heat shell in your gob as soon as look at you! They know you eat their friends. Luckily I'm non-carnivorous...

Why would you want to make a monkey anyway? Not exactly appropriate given that all of Flashpoint's islands are in the far north... And static animals just wouldn't hold up to closer examination. We want cows that move, moo, and chew grass!

Is there an animator who'd be prepared (or even capable!) of doing this?. The same animation could be used for all grazing animals, horses goats sheep, even pigs! Maybe the horse would'nt look right, the gait would be different :-\ . I'd be prepared to help in this in anyway I can...

Reskining a man with a monkey skin would result in a sixfoot monkey! :P ...

I Once was talking to a addon maker who was working on a bird Addon you could shoot.  I was hoping he would have finished it because I had a survial mission in the works where I wanted to have the player have to hunt birds for food. kinda of a resistence fighter on the run Campaign. but he dropped off the face of the earth. too bad would have been a interesting Campaign.

Re:Animal Addons - FANTASTIC IDEA !

The name of this game is "Immersion", right ?  (Wrong ! I hear you all cry - it's OFP !)  ::)   :P

What I mean is - let's face it, it's all just a computer game, right ?  We all know that it's all just code.  Models, skins, textures, sound effects, weapons, ammo, the whole works - it's all just a bunch of numbers.  So why does everyone keep asking for new sniper rifles, new infantry, desert skins, arctic skins etc ?

It's the "immersion" factor.

Me - I'm working on a number of Iraq war scenarios and I would KILL to have goats, dogs and so on walking around the joint.

How about a dog that follows you everywhere barking its damned fool head off, but as soon as you get within 10 metres it turns and runs away?  Or a herd of goats that panics in all directions if you get upwind of them (getDir etc).  Or a pack of vultures circling an injured player lost in the desert (as his health fades the vultures get closer and closer . . .).  Would make "stealth" missions a nightmare and add a whole new dimension to village patrols.  (What was that ? A civilan, a gunman or just a stray dog ?)

You could model dogs, horses, cows and chickens on civilian Men and flying birds on civilian Air objects.  And as Drozdov said - the default action for these dudes would be "get the heck out of there" any time gunfire starts.

I'm working on a number of scripts that simulate making camp.  The player will be able to create a camp at will (tent, or if in building - cot).  That object will allow the player to build a fire (fireplace, or if in building - stove).  Unless the player is in a building and prone at night then he will take damage, but if he stays next to the fire then all his damage will be healed.

Now, add to that some wandering animals, a good hunting rifle and you've got a great weekend getaway !    :D  :gunman:

What I'd find particularly atmospheric is a flock of birds. Picture the scene:

You are crawling through a field past some enemies, and they don't notice you. Suddenly you disturb a sparrow and the whole lot of them buggers off. The bad guys turn and start shooting randomly into the corn; a flock of deer a few hundred yards away starts legging it away from there.

Now *that* is what we need.

I noticed someone just released a guard Dog addon looks pretty good for a beta. I remeber there used to be a Bird script out that was pretty good for making a flock of birds. had a demo mission with it as well.
