well done on this Asmo... i know most people wouldn't take such a debate about their work so well... and like Mac said, i do very truely admire your work... and anyways... it can only get better (and from what 've tested.... hehehe.... i think it will indeed)

Exactly.  Also, just how many other missions have generated this kind of reaction?  Not too many, I would guess.  That says a lot.   8)

I would say that its Kuro whos having to take most of the argument since he is the person getting shot to pieces over it.

Not that Asmo is not having to put up with anything, its just i reckon Kuros the one we should be firing showing respect to for taking so much shit about his poor reviewing.

a decent view from a nice, unusual angle, something that makes it so you know whats going on but not just following one character around, for example.

Basically something which doesnt just sit there doing nothing, something which doesnt give the thing a ... heart attack(only word i could really think of) feel, (ie. jumps suddenly from one view to another).

Those are the SORTS of things i look for, obviously a lot of other stuff comes into play.

No offense mate - but you should, seriously.

Someone puts you up against a battalion of enemy tanks with nothing but a squad of men with an AT4 and a LAW launcher, and the mission has to go down in history as being poorly planned.

A mission that is achievable but requires you to start again from the beginning/last save 50-60 times also has a slight problem in my opinion.

Of course it is all a matter of opinion - for example while i seem to struggle with missions others find of a medium difficulty, i know this so when i review i try to put in something like HOW the difficulty affected the game (ie. was it the kind that made the game that little bit more tense and interesting, or the kind that made you want to throw your computer moniter out the window).

This is just how i do things mate, obviously its different for each reviewer, you do it your way, i'll do it mine, people can then adjust how good they think a mission is because they know that I have a tendency to go hard on people, so if i give a 6 and say is average they might think "okay, so he says its average bordering decent, so this should be a decent play), or for you they might think "well he's given it a 6 so i don't really think this is worth the download".

Not saying anyones a bad reviewer, just saying that if everyone sticks to their system then the people will start to learn our habbits and be able to compensate - thats what the comments are for, so people can voice their opinion on the review (and reviewer).

 -- ofpec has around 294 missions, 15 of which have a rating of 9 (3 of which were given by you i noticed).  that means that you put "city of the dead" in the top 5% of the missions at ofpec.  big difference.
 -- no mission has ever been given a 10, and 30 missions have been given a rating of 8; missions rated 8 are still in the top 15% of all the missions in ofpec.

i gave the mission a 4, its just very amateurish.  FO's Lament is another mission which a received a 9 (guess who reviewed it), i would've given it maybe a 5-7.

first many thanks for your statistic check. (I just want to remark that Avon only picks good missions for MOM and has not to review every submitted mission)

And i must agree while reading this comments i overrated this mission (it will get a 8 IMHO at the moment). Maybe you noticed i am getting harder in my newest reviews.
I am quite happy about this open discussion, i have no problems when my reviews get discussed (even in a hard way). It gives me a feeling what kind of reviews the OFPEC community wants: And after this, it is clear the hard review.

I just have two request to the community:
1.) Make missions yourself
 ( it is the only way to measure the effort and way put in a mission and we have more great missions for our favourite game)
2.) Join us in the Missions Depot
(We are always happy to have new members for reviewing missions. Because the more people are doing the reviews, the less impact has a single reviewer.

my point was that her giving it a 3 is not as big a deal as ofpec giving it a 9 (not to mention that she grades missions based on how much fun she had, not necessarily how much thought was put into them).

i think to become a reviewer at ofpec you should have to create and submit a good mission (7/8 or above) that uses as many aspects of ofp mission making as possible.  this way we won't have reviewers that don't know anything about making missions (and therefore won't know what to look for).

The problem with that .pablo. is that very few people give their time to the OFP community for free!  *edit* well, they do... there's tons of addons and mods and such, but reviewing addons and missions takes a certain breed!  ;) *edit*

Mission reviewers are hard to come by, especially ones that can review more than 1 mission a week!  

Anyway, you all can be sure that this mission and it's review, as well as this thread and the comments on the mission page have spurred some talking amongst the OFPEC staff.  Never fear, your favorite OFP editing site is in good hands!   ;)  (now hand me that everclear!)   :o   ;D

And thanks again to Kuro for his hard work and to everyone for their great and honest feedback on this!!   ;D

All the bad things Kuro mentioned I agree with...

But one thing that bothered me most...

The cutscene shows the entire city getting bombed to absolute hell, with people and tanks popping up in the air like gravity was suddenly turned off.  Now if THAT many units survived in the mission..  
I think I will play some Quake thank you very much...

I also did not notice a thrilling plot.  Or a sudden absolute change in the storyline.

I'm not complaining, just pointing things out I feel would have not have deserved a 9 :)


I would honestly make it so b4 you reach the city reinforcments come to show :  This is why these lucky ****s survived :)

P.S.  If anyone that's having a hard time with this mission is standing up in the city, try laying down a lot more!   ;)  You stand up and you're dead for the most part,

*****the city was not supposed to have that many enemies left according to "intel" and they were not supposed to have had time to build the underground bunkers that they did.  (I would have put those in the mission, but it wasn't possible back then) ****  8)

Make more sense now?   ;)   My missions have surprises... The intel was wrong..  The guys hid in bunkers and foxholes...  

Think about it... Anyone familiar with Vietnam??  Those guys avoided Napalm, huge bombs and artillery all the time!!  Why is it so hard to believe this type of thing could happen here??

How about the Monastery at Monte Casino (Italy) during WW2.  The USAAF bombed it and turned it into a big pile of rubble.  The Germans were using it as an observation post and most managed to survive the bombing.  That actually made it much harder to clear them out.

yes but the huge one they did lost a ridiculous amont of men trying - i think its was 300 men to the german 80  ::)
