gps where is it?

i have in the init.sqs of my mission:

showGps True

but i get nothing, not in Cadet mode, not in Veteren mode, and not by settings in Options for difficulty (where it mentions extended map info)
where is my GPS?
i played a mission not too long ago (but cant find it now) where the GPS was a graphical interface (like the radio or compass or watch on the map screen while in-game), but i was still in Veteren mode, and the interface would only give the map grid coordinates of approximately where i was (Hb56 grid for example)
