The one thing I find annoying about OpFlash shotgun's is that when using the shell, it just fires a few shots that go in a exact straight line out of the barrel, no matter how far you shoot. Not exactly how a shotgun works  :), so here's my idea:

Make it so it fires 7/12/43556/whatever consecutive shots, like the reg. shotgun, but set the recoil to 'zero' and make it VERY innacurate. The net effect would be x number of shots spreading out from a single point in a cone (I hope). Oh, and of course make the RPM very high so it looks like they fire at the same time.

Just a idea, someone let me know if it would work!
