I believe 512x256 is the optimum size. But I think you can have sizes such as 256x128, 512x512, 256x256 etc. But I think 128 may be too small.

I have used images ranging from as far as 64 X 64 too 768 X 512. SO long as the image dimensions are divisible by 64, the engine will recognize them.
