MSG90
« on: 06 Feb 2003, 11:19:31 »
Has anyone made an MSG90 addon on?

the MSG90 is the military equivalent of the PSG1 (which is intended for law enforcement use, so the MSG90 would be more suitable to an army ops game)

quoting http://www.heckler-koch.de/html/english/behoerden/03_rifles/03_09_index.html

"MSG90 7.62mm x 51

Precise firing and hitting at great distances and under exeptional operational conditions demand special high-precision rifles and excellently trained shooters. The development of the Police Precision Rifle PSG1 and of the Military Precision Rifle MSG90 is HECKLER & KOCH's answer to this demand.

The design and functional features are almost identical with those of the other well known members of the HKG3 family. The MSG90 has many of the same features found on the PSG1, but weighs only 6.40 kg."

plus, it looks *lovely* ;D

heh yes, definately a bit on the pricey side - but my point is that the MSG90 is specifically for military, so it makes more sense to have it (to me anyway) :)

its firing 7.62 too, so it should be at least as powerful as the AK47 (in game terms anyway) i would have thought - i tried the PSG1 from http://www.opflashpoint.org/addons.php?v=276 and it seemed a little weak to me :)

which HK pack?

i looked in HK Assault Rifles http://www.opflashpoint.org/addons.php?v=23 and HK Bonus Pack http://www.opflashpoint.org/addons.php?v=24 and its not in either - G3 is about as close as it seems to get

if you could give me a link that'd be cool ;D

The MSG90 allows like the PSG-1 the shooter to customize the rifle's stock to fit him/her to allow better accuracy.  someone said something about the PSG-1 costs a lot....last i checked(3 days ago) the price for one in my area is $10,811.99 plus taxes and import fees from Germany.

My thought is if people make a MSG90 i thibk they are shipped with a fixed 6X42 power scope so i would use a custom reticle but fixed zoom like the Dragunov

yeah the msg90 is the poor boys psg1 similar in ability but less complex if im not mistaken and slightly less accurate still for a semi auto sniper rifle it is top notch

well, from what i've read, police and military sniper engagements are a completely different kettle of fish

 - police tend to be precision head shots from ranges around 100m
 - military tend to be centre of mass shots from 600m

the PSG1 is a high precision rifle, the MSG90 shares a lot of its componants and technology, but is considerably lighter (PSG1 8.10kg vs MSG90 6.4kg) - important if you are going to be hefting it through the field for days / weeks on end :)

plus, it just looks a hell of a lot better, imo ;)

in terms of accuracy, the MSG90 is up there with the SR25 - both at around 3/4 MOA - i cant find stats for the PSG1 but i'd imagine its in the same magnitude

a fixed 10x scope would be awesome for the addon too, as the trouble with variable scopes is that there are more parts to break, not something you want to encourage, so many snipers fit fixed optics...

best accuracy stat i have found for the PSG-1 is from Janes Guns Recognition Guide where is claims accuracy of 50 rounds into an 80mm circle at 300m

The HK MSG90 and the PSG-1 are probably the most accurate semi-auto precision rifles made, but they arent the most accurate rifles around.  i have seen a Remington model 700 fitted with a 26in fluted Bull Barrel with a recessed target muzzle w/ a bipod and topped with a Leupold 3-12X50mm shoot close to 1/2MOA and i am sure that isnt even the most accurate rifle around.

oh, i dont debate for a moment that they are the most accurate rifles - though in terms of semi automatic action rifles they must be up near the top ;D

i just think its a damn good looking gun that would be worthwhile having in OpFP  8)

at the end of the day, there isnt that much to choose between the performance of the sniper rifles in OpFP (provided you can use their scopes properly ;) ) as i doubt you're going to see a huge amount of variation firing on man sized targets at up to 600m without the effects of windage etc etc (at least, not in my experience of sniping in the game - though i have yet to try the AW50 firing the BMG round - looks fun) so its all down to the looks, yes? :)

MSG90 would be a a nice one to have ingame...i also wonder if it is possible to make a assualt rifle and have a detachable scope that can be attached using animations(and take about 20seconds or so) to allow a person to act somewhat as a sniper then go back to an infantry assualt rifle in the field....
