Thermal Sights
« on: 16 Feb 2005, 01:29:08 »
How hard would it be to make a thermal sight for M16's or SAW's? Like the ones that are white hot or black hot? Any ideas? I don't know how to make addons, so I was just wondering if it could be done.
You know what I hated most about the war in Iraq? My magazine emptied at the most inconvinient times!

Like yourself I am not a great Addon maker but from
what I have seen of OFP it would be extremely hard.
At any rate you would not get realistic thermal data
from objects since the game does not support this.
There are references in the game code to "IR targets"
though but I leave this to someone with more knowledge
of the game internals to explain what function these
might have, if any.

I too think that the lack of thermal sights is a deficiency
in the game since it makes tank gunnery, for example,
very unrealistic in game. This is a pity since OFP otherwise
gives great scope for the exercise of authentic "tankie
tactics". Thermal sights I have read are "rumoured
to be" a feature of the upcoming OFP 2 [whenever that
gets released].

That would be a pretty neat little addition. Maybe we should send a petition over to the OFP2 team and demand that they put thermals into the game! And if they don't, then...............well I guess they don't. (I'm trying to resort to less violent tendencies than I usually go with)  :P

I wonder if the OFP2 team will support all the guys that like to make their own mods and stuff...kinda like the first one. I guess only time will tell.
