1st world war scenarios
« on: 12 Aug 2004, 17:45:20 »
I know ofp is just the best as it is with no mods, but other than the attempt from the game "iron storm" I don't actually remember of any other 1st world war setting in a fps/wargame.
It would be a good idea to test trench warfare, heavy shelling and maybe even gas attacks on enemy positions.
Anyone think or know of any possibilities to try and create such a scenario??
thanks.

I'm sure everything is doable and it'd look good too. OFP excels at open field combat, it sucks in urban stuff.

Trenches might be difficult but Blanco had some kind of trench addon or script.... :P

Thanks, I'll try and get hold of that mod, if anyone is interested in starting a project on ww1, please contact me via e-mail and we'll get down to business..I'm a good mission designer(i.e. I have lots of ideas based on my dad's u.s. army field manuals+ all the years spent with war movies and historical books.)
My goal is to design a campaign which takes place in france.
I'll provide feedback to all those interested.

I saw a documentary on WWI on Discovery.

Apperantley, some fronts were very, very cool. People went over to each other to have meals and play football. Once, some germans tossed over a rock to the britts, with a note saying "Our officers want us to fire an arty round at you. We don't really want to. We will blow in a whistle just before so you know that you have to take cover". And apperantley, the whistle came, just like the shell. No casutlies. :P

That'd be cool in OFP. :P

Actually I live in Italy and my great-grandad was a machine gunner in ww1, he told my grandad that once he shot over 100 people in one day, then after the battle they all met in the middle of the field (aka no man's  land) and listened to a gramophone and played cards all together...
then after that they continued killing each other.
sad eh?

Le trenchê, ono problemo... Ehhh. Forget it. :P ;D

Anyway, the trenches might be a problem. AI and OFP physichs might be a problem. I love the idea otherwise, 'cause trench war is about the most atmosphere filled you can get IMO.

but the best aspect is that you fight under heavy artillery facing machine guns and lotsa sh*i* flying on your direction.. somehow more thrilling than the "after montignac" or " a strange meeting" missions in ofp.
