Look ! A turbo button!
« on: 02 Jul 2004, 15:31:19 »
Yepp. In an attempt to make this little hog go a bit faster, we just upgraded from 10 mbit/s to 100 mbit/s. Now, before you go on and say "uh.. 10 mbit? but i only got 2k/s from Uruguay!" remember that the way the internet is wired, you do not allways get top speed everywhere. In fact, seemingly closely connected networks can have really crappy speed due to what route the packets have to take.

Hopefully this will increase the speed a little more than it increased our monthly costs :)

*Straps in*

There we go, I won't fall out of my chair when browsing OFPEC.

Jesus, 100mbit, Even dial-up users can have relatively fast access lol.

While we are on the subject of bandwidth and speed, How will this effect the bandwidth needed by the Addon Depot? Because if a 100Mbit line cant cover it what can??

It's not the bandwidth used for downloading (X Kilobyte/s), it's the total bandwidth spent. That is, for the month when we just got the 100Mbit connection, I think we came in at about 200 Gigabyte used.

Dude I think you've got something wrong. Check the main page news on "how do you pay for that connection". I'm sure not every Swede has a 100Mbit connection, and I'm sure a lot of them don't need one 'cause they're not hosting a site as big as OFPEC!  ;D

and I bet every swede got a 100Mbit too... :P
