Army Men Mod
« on: 25 May 2004, 01:03:15 »
Why not do a mod on 3do's Army Men Series? I mean, sure they were'nt masterpieces, but it was a good idea. Putting in a FPS like Falshponit could only make it better. You could add special damage textures and use traditional army men weopons like M1s and Bazookas. you could also make a flooded sandbox map, with plastic toys battling in a flooding sandbox. It would be pretty cool.

This would actually really like this idea a lot.  It would take me back to when I used to set up the Army Men on the carpet and have mock battles.  BTW, have you tried the Lega Warz mod?

Nothing like the cries of pain and flying plastic to make you want to go home. ( did I say plastic?) :)

Sounds cool. Just don't do sarges heros, that game sucked. The world war ones were good. ;)

I think this is an excellent idea. I was thinking I could reskin either the i44 troops or the HYK US Soldiers, but I have no idea how to make the base green and tan plastic texture. But it would be excellent with plastic tanks/helis/men roaming around.

I really like the idea about the flooded sandpit map... very cool :)

i thought about it and i think i should base it off of the actual plastic soldiers that u get for $1 in the 60-packs, and most of those are from the vietnam era with m-16s, Sheridan tanks, and heuy helicopters.

Maybe i could borrow (with permission of course), props, units, and the vehicles of the Lega Warz Mod. I will check with them to see if they will give some models to the cause.  :)

Many of the objects are of little use for this addon, we would just need to retuexture some models green, and give them a plastic look.

You got to make a giant sandbox addon that's huge. :D

But don't forget tan soldiers. Wait what army men are you makin? The toys or the actual video game? I'm talkin about the video game.

If you have PS1 then I suggest you rent the game Army men or even if you have Ps2...

i have all of the PC games, world war for ps1, and RTS for ps2. I would take inspiration from both toys and video games

Hmmm.. *Puts hand up*
I'll do it :D
But basicly, you need texview,
Get a plain green texture (In paint, for eg)
Make sure it's 512pixels by 512pixels (Or other sizes, like 32x32 etc)

And in O2, hit A, then right click > load texture.. Find it.. Then drag it over the model, press a, select everything, a again, and hit B

Simple
I'll have a go at new models soon, though :)

Hmm :S
I seriously doubt that would work.. It would look awful..
I'll go and look for Army Men 2 tools (And the game) just now.. See what I can do

If you want to try retexturing a man.. Try.. I doubt it will look good though :(

Like if you read the reviews for the legawars mod, it said something about them expecting them to be retextured soldiers.. But was extremly happy when they turned out as new models etc

So it wouldn't go down to well, I think.. Unless the stuff is new models etc

Could be a fun mod though :D

soldiers would be easy as heck, you dont need any anims. you only to spin rotors on helos and turn turrets on tanks, both of which are relatively easy

Nah, you need a new walking anims for them.. When a normal soldier runs, it's like a person runs..
But an toy army man walking, they, well, wadle.. Mainly because they have they'rew feet joined :P

But I guess you could unjoin they're feet, and everything would be okay! :)

I'll have a go at the model this week end, unless something important happens *Laughs*

I've got the BAS Standard Inf kit, so I'll try modifing that (I'll just use it for the selection names :))

ever seen the army men series? they dont have a base. Its also easier on the engine if you use the same model.
