AC130
« on: 28 Apr 2004, 00:52:02 »
This may have been asked for but the search came up with nothing. Is there an AC130 Spectre Gunship out there?

And since each vehicle can only have one gunner can it be done?

The word on the street is no, it can't be done with any degree of effectiveness.

However I have seen someone working on an AC-47, an older gunship, but I don't know any specifics - it could be just an addon or it could be some slick scripting...dunno yet.

Hey there,

If you look in the Pending Submissions over in the editors depot you will find my spooky gunship script (the only way to have multiple independently targeting "weapons" on a single vehicle).  You can attatch it to any plane/helicoptor/whatever (the demo uses the BIS CH-47 Chinook), and it works pretty good.  It is still in the final tweaking phase, and some of the guys working on the AC-47 are planning on using the script for the finished model.  Check it out if you are interested.

Hmm sounds good. I was thinking that maybe the problem could be solved by when the gunner switches guns via spacebar from M134 to 30mm cannon he switches places to that specific gun. All the attack choppers have multiple weapons with one gunner, why not just move him around?

Ahh but your way must be better... :o

Problem is though that planes don't allow for gunners only helicopters do in the ofp engine. And i think that planes cant have side firing weapons either but im not sure on that one.

Why not make it an animation just like gear down, wings fold up, etc. It just has to look like it. Turrents and flashes of light and then the explosions on the ground. That seems like the easiest way.

Look on this site
Theres a AC130 script
The AC130 isn't acctualy showen, because it would normally circle very high up (Not sure how, a few thousand foot maybe)
So it uses camcreated bullets

Anyways, it looks extremely cool at night, and works nicely

Nice.

 :)

I always wondered how effective a plane with side mounted weapons would be when flying around, I mean the gunner would have a split second to target then fire, but our military can do it. I just can't figure it out.

they fly very high and slow, and they circle so that the side of the aircraft is like 20 to 45 degs to the land. and in real life scopes can mag to liek 100x with IR vision.
in OFP the AI is to stupid to fly like that and when flyign that high you can not usual see the ground.
and that AC130 script.. it can lag very easly since of all the cam creats. the Spooky script is kinda cool but not very realistic.

in that circle they put down like 10k rounds per minute or so. thats how it is so effective those rounds include the 40mm bofors 105 howitzer and 20mm vulcans it may be a quick attack but id rather be on the plane than under it

An AC-130 would be great in OFP but in all reality it would have to be piloted and manned by AI (not human players OFP viewdistance is a biatch) and there would have to be heavy scripting involved.  But it would be great in missions to be able to call in AC-130 support and have them level a couple of city blocks that are full of enemy resistance...  But of course you wouldn't control the aircraft yourself, it just wouldn't work very well.

could you simulate a spectre strike with scripting, have you designate an area on the map and after a brief time the place gets lit up with scripting instead of an actual plane flying overhead, i realize it isnt as fun but hey they still get blown away

Like I mentioned above, my spooky script works regardless of what it is "attatched" to, and it can be configured for just about any rate of fire and projectile (all of the rounds are camcreated from a getpos reference point and then setvelocity'd towards the target using some trig).  The chinook was just a placeholder of sorts (mainly so the beta wouldn't need an addon).  If anyone has any specific requests for what they would like it to do, let me know.

The scripts arent well documented, but I can mold it fairly easily to suit.  The advantage of the spooky script is that targets are actually tracked and engaged, one by stinkin' one.  The strike ends when all targets in the attack radius are gone (one way or the other).  I have an update to the beta script, that causes the targets to react to the strike (instead of just standing around) and wil even cause some units to return fire (out of fustration and stupidity I suspect  ;)) in the direction of the gunship (using invisible targets).  My OFP 'puter is currrently offline with some bs tech issues, but I should be up and running again by Friday, and on this (typically) long winded and admittedly rambling note...L8r.

Ive been working on some plans for an AC-130 SPECTRE gunship. I have figured out a way that it could be done. It would required specialist scripts but i can be done with someone with skill (hint hint BAS). Basically it needs a modified version of the CoC Unified Artilery script and some scripts for the plane.
If anyone is interested in the ideas then dont hesitate to contact me.
Illl send you the plans on word attached to an email. Ive already contacted BAS about an idea like this and am yet to get a reply.
I have also got some ideas for a C-130 SF (Special Forces) which can be uses.
Yeah, my addy is gingerdude_7@hotmail.com ;) :gunman:
