Right click in Ed depot.
« on: 12 Apr 2004, 22:21:56 »
Due to a particularly nasty bit of spyware that infected my PC recently, I can no longer click on an addon and have the download window appear.
I can't right click, "save as" anymore either as whenever I try I get a no linking message in the save as box.
What can I do?
I've tried blocking the malitious site but it keeps coming back. I don't want technical support I just want a way to get the files I so desperatly need.
Cheers.

Sorry fella,

It sounds like that spyware has done a grand job on your system.
The problem is, that with the issues you have there really isn't any other way to get those resources short of being given FTP access, and I'm afraid thats not an option...

You best bet is two choices:

1. Run a program like Ad-Aware or Spybot to remove the spyware

2. If that fails, you'll need to consider a reinstall of your Windows

After much screaming, crying, suicidal thoughts and finally hard work and research, I have fixed the problem. The infection I had was a coolwebsearch virus which wasn't recognised by any of the latest updates to the spyware removal packages.

I found an answer in a specialist program called SWShredder which was designed especially to kill my particular virus. I can't add a direct link to the site but I do believe that it would be a good idea for people to know about it as the Coolwebsearch virus is being updated on a weekly basis and poses a significant threat to us all.

Cheers.
