PBO size
« on: 29 Jan 2004, 23:38:23 »
I just made a mission & when I put everything into a folder to be zipped I realised the pbo file was 4.81mb!....so I went to the user missions folder to look at it unpacked & added up everything in it & it all added up to 5,070kb.

So how the heck could it end up 4.81mb when I convert into pbo?

This map is my first try at custom music but the ogg files are just a few kb.

I used about 6 camera shots using stock editor camera views so I took a few out & it was still 4.81mb.

I dont get it.

Thanks.

You can be sure that during pbo file creation, nothing's magically added to the pbo file. You should check all the files in your mission folder (and it's subfolders!), 'cause there's where your problem will be.

It's not a good idea to add custom music and sounds in a MP mission anyway. The best solution would be to remove all custom music entirely.

You do realize that 5070Kb is more than 4.81Mb, don't you?

Or are you asking why didn't it get compressed more?

The pbo file is a compressed version of everything in the mission folder.  But, if you add images or sound, they are already compressed so they won't get compressed again (maybe a tiny bit, maybe not).  Any text files will get the largest compression.
