The BUGS thread
« on: 21 Aug 2002, 08:42:08 »
Please post forum bugs here. I will get round to fixing them all eventually ::)

Keep your description short, concise and to the point.

Bugs:

  • Any more than 270 characters in signature will not be visible
  • Clicking on 'send email' icon under username in messages does not send an email
  • Weird semicolons in signatures
  • Report to moderator not working (forum emailing broken)
Mods yet to be installed:

  • View all option for boards/topics
  • Customisable # of topics/messages per page
  • Gmod/admin listing at bottom of page
Weird forum errors:

  • If you are using the forum and suddenly receive a 'HTTP NOT FOUND' error, try simply refreshing the page (F5). Sometimes PHP skips a beat.
  • If you are using the forum and a page seems to stop loading halfway, with weird PHP error messages, wait a couple of seconds and refresh (F5). Chances are that you tried to load a PHP page that I was editing right at that moment. PHP loads what it can but then crashes when the document is incomplete. After a few seconds the upload will be complete and the page will work.
  • If you are having trouble staying logged in, try upgrading your browser to IE 6.0. This fixed all of my log in problems ;)

Feel free to reply with bug reports. Please, don't start discussions in this thread! The number of things i have to do is growing exponentially, and it is confusing when people are posting bug reports all over the place :-\

Cheers! :-*

  Hey all,

I appear to have a hit and miss bug goin on here.  Sometimes when I log in it will let me no problem.  Then other times when I log in it will say hello Yankeetanker and then when I try to access anything it will go to the 'log in screen again' and say hello guest.  I will log in again and it will let me to the appropriate link and then I will try another link and will have to log in again with the same results...most of the time it will not access the link and that is when I am trying to access something that I actually have access to.... any ideas.

It's a really frustrating thing and has kept me from posting anything for the last few days.

I need back up here... I feel obliged to try and help but I am not being allowed to....whats the deal.

  Yankeetanker.

Hey Yank...    I had that problem after I registered.  The best solution is to, when you login in, select the box to keep you logged in.  The close the browser and come back to the site.  You should find yourself now permanently logged in, and wont have to enter your details after every page change.

Try upgrading to IE 6.0. That seems to fix most of the log-in problems.

Change your security settings, lower them to get IE to accept cookies.

Well, the local time in below the time change box differs from the forum time to the right top, without any changes.

This is normal, because sometimes PHP needs certain information from your browser. If you hit the back button sometimes the information can't be sent, and you get that screen.

If you look at the following image:

you can see the 'solve' button at the top right hand corner of the message. If you start a thread, you should see that button. If you don't then there is a problem....

Messiah and co,

Another thought would be to see where your security levels in IE are set, in particular the cookies level.

If you don't allow cookies to be created, you don't stay logged into the forums.

Failing that, reinstate all the defaults for your browser and see if that helps as well.

And as snYpir so wisely states "Upgrade to IE6.0!"

Enjoy. :)
