Well you may notice that I'm not continuing with this project, but thanks, and keep adding them. Maybe in the future someone else will do it, or I will continue it. Then all the info can be found here. ;D

Yeah this would be useful if you're looking for something very specific, but it would have to be updated regualrly! I'll see if anybody on the XAS team wants to do it...

Okay, how about this. I will need the attention of Noon now. OFPEC has a very good method of putting in missions and addons, and then the staff have to unpend them. Could you do this for the UAR as well, maybe? There could be a few boxes and then a 'submit' button:

TAG (leave blank if none): <drop down box with names of registered tags>
Filename: <the .pbo name not .msi>
Addon Name:
Side (East/West): <drop down box>
Category: <the category name in map editor, not drop down>
Type: <drop-down box containing 'ground infantry', 'ground vehicle', etc, and 'other'>
Website(s) found:
Comments:

There could be a search button, and if people wanted to know the filename of a crap addon that is messing up their game, they could search for it.

What'dya think then, Noon? It's your call.

fragsta,

Certainly an interesting idea.

We'll look into the viability of OFPEC hosting this, and get back to you.
We're a little busy at the mo, so the reply won't be instantaneous (like tonight).

Kind regards,
Noon

Sounds good. I await a response, eagerly. Anyone got any comments about this? Good idea? Any suggestions?

Righty ho,

We've had a look into it (yes, it was an easier decision than we realised), and we've decided that this idea is just not feasable.

The two main factors that work against this idea are:

 - The search functionality as suggested above, already exists within the OFPEC Addon Depot, and the depot already carries the added bonus of centralising the retrieval point for these addons.

 - The staffing level required to keep this list even 95% complete and up-to-date would be very large, more than is worth the payoff in having to maintain this list.

So ... while this is a welcome suggestion, the effort and time invested in the Addons Depot means that to effectively double up on that resource is not the best solution for OFPEC.

What I would suggest is that anyone listing addons simply submit them to OFPEC and take advantage of the Addon Depots abilities.
You get all of the above suggestions, plus the ability to download them gauranteed and immediately.

One thing that the addon depot does not offer is a full list of all addons available. The idea of the UAR is to organise the addon world. I know that sometimes people have the problem of not being able to find an addon they need to use another addon or mission. Also, OFPEC does not host all the addons, and will not, because OFPEC's policy, if I remember correctly, is that they only accept realistic addons, and addons with tags. There are hundreds of untagged, messed up addons out there that I'm sure people want to get rid of or organise.

fragsta,

I agree that the Addon Depot doesn't have a full list of addons.

But what I said was: Why create a List and a Depot, when the Depot can serve as the List? Why create, maintain and staff a list that can be better served by somewhere like the Addon Depot?

And OFPEC's policy on Addons is simply that they comply with the TAG system (which, btw, is also a BIS requirement), and that they work.
We accept all addons as long as they meet TAG and 'it works' requirements.
ie: Check out LegaWarz as an example. ;)

And I know that 99% of addon makers voluntarily adhere to the TAG standard anyway, so its not as much an issue as you think. :)

As for the untagged, messed up addons ... I'm not sure what your point is.
Surely they're not worth listing/hosting if they're not functional? If you do, you'll find people will start avoiding the List, as you're 'supplying' them with broken addons.
And if they work but aren't tagged, we have instructions guiding them how to TAG their addon. Its easily done.

So considering all the above, wouldn't you agree that using a storage Depot as the List would better serve the community?

My point is that tons of people have tons of addons wasting space, with weird filenames that have no relation to their names in the game. But I respect your decision. If only the TAG system had existed when people first made addons...

Whats happening with this?
If you want, it could knock up a simple list (PHP/MySQL) for the list

Interested?

I don't know if you guys can help but the title of the thread leads me to believe that this is the place to ask.

I'm looking for these addons which I found in a Mission.sqm.

addOns[]=
   {
      "DWRnamgrunt",
      "DWRnammg",
      "DWRvietcong",
      "DWRvietcong2",
      "STTDesSoldierEAT",
      "LT1SealM60",
      "LT1SealCommando",
      "LT1SealSniper",
      "LT1SealMedic",
      "LT1SealGL",
      "LT1SealSniper50cal"
   };

Cheers guys.
