Review by MikeroOverviewThe Overview consists of a picture with a black and white border with no shadow. Unfortunately I cannot see what the picture has to do with the mission! The accompanying text is short and descriptive about the mission ahead. It contains information on the author and the OFPEC URL; this information can go in the Readme. IntroThe mission Intro is basic as far as intro's go. It has no sound and cheesy text! The Intro jumps straight into the action and does not have any build up to the following scenes. However, the Intro does contain a flyby of a SU-25 bombing run, better camera angles could improve the Intro. The Intro lacks quality and grammar and thus makes a dull and boring read. BriefingMy first impression of the briefing was positive, there was not too much text to read and the objectives were clear to understand. The briefing consists of a one page plan which is easy on the eyes. Links to markers work. Unfortunately no sound was present, and no weapon selection either. Onto, the notes section, this section is four pages long and is big and a detailed read of the mission ahead, so get your reading glasses out. All of the markers here work and spelling and grammar is of a good standard. The objectives tick off when complete. Overall, a decent briefing. MissionFirst of all, the OnLoadMission text is way to big! You start the mission in the back of an M113, you get a small bit of radio chatter en-route to the landing zone, but no sound is accompanying the radio chatter! After a not so difficult fire-fight (this could have been harder with a sniper or machine gunner), you proceed to the second part of the first objective. Depending on how long you take to get to the shilka, results in you either seeing the shilka getting blown up or not (read the notes on how this happens). The player has been given binoculars for the mission, which come in handy as the mission progresses and if being played on a high spec machine. As you proceed to the next objective you can see the other units moving to their positions, it is nice to see that the author has spent time on those little bits that could make or break a mission. Again more radio chatter appears, but no sound to accompany it! The spetz natz camp is well defended, so don't go solo and don't rush! Moving towards the airport, you do encounter a lot more infantry and the odd BMP to tangle with, defence of the airport could be better but it is sufficient. Assaulting the airport is fun and a surprise waits for you (I took care of it with a LAW). Destroying the vehicles at the airport is not too difficult, but would have been easier with a few satchels. Extract, which uses helicopters and works lovely, and the mission is complete. Outro(s)No Outro! Overall(Review Date: Feb 2005) Overall, the mission itself is of a fine quality, not many improvements are necessary in the mission itself, although a custcene or two could be beneficial for it score. If the author could take the time to redo the mission Intro and add some music, definitely sound for the radio chatter and an Outro, the mission would be a lot more enjoyable and would receive a reputable score from me. Recommended for the mission alone, but not as a whole mission if you are looking for consistency from start to finish (Intro, Mission, Outro). |
