Review by CheetahOverviewNot available. IntroThe intro can be enabled or disabled from the player lobby and starts at the beginning of the mission. It is short, as a good MP intro should be, yet it shows what is going on in Sahrani. With enjoyable background music and sound effects, the author did a good job, but there is room for improvement. The camera work is simple and does the job but isn't superb or special. Despite the sound effects for dynamic texts, there is no such dynamic text which would've added a bit to the introduction. BriefingMost multiplayer missions have compact briefings that ensure that everyone gets the most important information. In public servers or with 10+ players that might be ideal. Operation Shining Anvil differs from this MP briefing habit in that is offers a full fledged briefing with special pages devoted to intelligence and gameplay hints. There is a very limited selection of magazines and grenades, understandable for this kind of mission. There is plenty of information present spread out over multiple clickable pages with working links to the map markers. Due to the open ended type of the mission, plenty of information is required in order for the two man team to do the job. Pictures of the target and the target area have been added, although they are a bit big and rough looking. They surely help to complete the objectives. Then there is the notes section with plenty of gameplay hints to help you complete the mission, like how to use the M24 sniper rifle. It is a welcome addition to the briefing. And if you are really desperate, you can check the spoilers for additional hints. Finally, the map and objectives are clear and the objectives get updated properly. MissionTESTERS: loki, cheetah The mission allows players to select the mission's starting time, think twice before selecting a certain time. Both darkness and daylight have their advantages in these type of missions, but one might have more than the other. There is also the option of selecting the difficulty, normal or hard (more soldiers). The difficulty in the mission is good, no cakewalk but certainly not easy. Of course, this depends on your play style: proper planning prevents piss poor performance. The mission isn't original with the objective being a target assassination, luckily, the mission is enjoyable thanks to the good gameplay factor involved in the mission. There is a script that allows the sniper to carry two primary weapons: M24 and MP5. Therefore, both team members have silenced weapons for area infiltration, doing it silenced has many advantages: well scripted. This leads to a certain degree of realism, the enemy responds decently in case of a contact with one of the numerous patrols or sentries. They will request assistance should they live long enough, which can make your life a lot harder. Thanks to the difficulty options and the open environment, you may wish to replay this mission with increased difficulty. The atmosphere during the mission strengthens this desire, it is above average thanks to the tight schedule of patrols, snipers and sentries which purpose is to ruin you. Operation Shining Anvil is quite lengthy for a two man cooperative thanks to multiple objectives being involved. Yet, there is room for improvement. The little dialogue present offers a nice experience, but it is somewhat hard to keep track off in a lethal environment. What might deduct from the gameplay is the lack of respawn or revive options, dead is dead so be careful in the plains of Sahrani. Finally, the target takes his time to show up, so you might as well take yours to prevent a long wait. Outro(s)The outro puts an end to a hopefully tense gameplay experience, simple camera shots with credits are displayed. These do their job, allow for regaining your breath and discussing the mission. SpecialCustom voices are a plus, but the most special script in use is the weapon switch script. It allows the sniper to carry a secondary weapon, the MP5, which is a great asset in achieving victory. Other than that, it is the scripting that goes on behind the scene. The scripting won't be noticeable for most players, but it is there to handle and prevent problems and luckily it does just that. OverallWith custom voices, a detailed briefing, decent enemy forces and an enjoyable weapon switching script, this mission has a lot to offer. There is room for improvement, the mission isn't original or doesn't have many features that set it apart from others. The best is the solid, bug free playtime it offers. Play this one if you have enough time, like a certain degree of realism and are into special forces cooperative missions. + Primary weapon switching |
