Arma 3 To Be Steam Powered

Yes, that's right folks and long time fanboys of Bohemia Interactive titles. Steam and the Valve team will apparently become a middle man for your gaming experiences. How this affects your end user experience will depend on how you are able to use the game.

Ultimately, the involvement of Steam may prove little difference to many new and recent gamers out there today. But for some of you who do not have the internet at home and must depend on local internet cafes to do your online browsing, this may very well be a soft kick in the pants. Sure, you can purchase the copy from a local store(if it makes it to your region), or online while browsing among the other internet starved cafe dwellers but when that purchased product arrives at your doorstep and you can not play it without first connecting to the internet in some way to allow Steam to do their part, you'll be using that product as a 60 dollar coaster. So, heads up to you unfortunate folks.

Otherwise, the Steam partnership may prove to be beneficial in more ways than not, hopefully. With mixed views of the digital distributor certainly comes confusion. According to BIS, this is the only way to get their product released for public consumption in 2013. It will also certainly provide additional security in the battle against the piracy gangs as well as make updates more streamlined, allowing BIS staff to focus on the game rather than the ditribution or digital rights management. There WILL be an option to play offline in single player mode so you guys who forget to pay your internet bills don't end up killing your spouses, but there MUST be an initial startup through Steam before you can play. This is a step toward the future of gaming and BIS is doing what all smart businesses do and merging with the traffic.

But who really cares if Arma 3 is released this year? With Arma 2 Still reigning as the awesome title it is, Dayz standalone around the corner for you apocalypse fans out there, X1 Software covering the Iron Front and the many community members working so diligently to build user made content, what's the rush?

BIS will do what is best for them and we will adapt or bail. Let's just hope that this partnership is a pleasant one for those who matter most, the supporters.
