ambident lighting
« on: 09 Oct 2005, 15:26:58 »
ive got a mission where you have no NVG's, no flares or anything to give of light and you have 3 men who are equipped with the exact same stuff as you

and you need to rely on ambident light wich i can only think of using fires and trucks but thats not what i want fully
if youve ever played Call of duty, that mission where its snowing and at night you can see but its still dark i need it like that i have got a good time you can see bits, but not everything

how can i get it so you can see most things but not all without changing the time
eg. Lights
fires
etc etc

but as you know fires arent that bright and there are no street lights near my mission area

what would you suggest
thanks

Make it a full moon with clear skies.

Wouldn't that destroy the effect?

Anyway the streetlights from the editorupdate won't work correctly...the light source appears halfway up the pole.

There are third party streetlights somewhere....try ofp.cz, but they use the 'fire' simulation and therefore flicker.

There are indeed third party streetlights kicking around, but I believe mikero's new Editor upgrade (in the Editors Depot) allows you to place working BIS streetlamps.

Make some enemy loons fire flares, ostensibly to light the place for their troops but in reality to light it for you.

Try and place it near dawn or dusk so you just get a faint glow in the sky.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

I've created a small addon, only for my mission. It's a light source whith custom brightness value, for the bigger fire effects I've placed. - You can dpbo everything if you like, it's "ZOS" on the beta mission board.

Another thing I've noticed in Mig's Friday the 13th mission is, that it is possible to play dark night missions. - We'll at least on my pc. I've to darken the room completely and set gamma to max. Then it's really possible to see (still without seeing much). A very atmospheric, realistic night.
Only looking at the map will blind you for a while and you've to use the cursor for aiming, not the iron sights. Oh, and you have to know your keyboard blindly. :)
If your mission really needs darkness, just tell the player all these tricks and it's possible to have fun.

good idea with that ill use that as a tip for the mission  ;D

oh yeah and i cant really use 3rd party addons cause my campaign is going to be addons free apart from the editor updates so im going to have a look at the light one wich is half way up the pole i dont really care about that so how do i make it light up ?

I don't suggest to use a 3rd party addon, I suggest to create your own addon.
It would be very small and you could include it in your zip later.

2 things there
1 i dont have a clue on how i would create the addon
2 the addon would be 3rd party once created ? i think

im going to go with the editorupdate ones since pretty much everyone has the updates so its not going to be a problem
but i need to find out how i make the light turn on ?
