Why not investigate the history of these two great units and find a mission that both recreates an actual battle and also brings out the best in OFP?
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

Col.

I've always thought that Nogova would have lent itself to a nice Grenada type campaign.

There are some missions (carried out in particular by Navy SEALS) that would make some great OFP mission made with Delats/Rangers instead.

Do a little research  ;)

Unfortunately OFP has too unprecise a controlling for well-placed movement in building and NPC soldiers have such a bad AI when it comes to CQBs. This makes realistic Delta missions in OFP quite hard to make. :(

delta is a Special Recovery Unit guys, not just CT as everyone is told. they could be recovering anything, not just people, and it doesn't have to be in a building

Well, sorry, you're right Phantom. Now that I've read the "Delta Force" chapter of the book "The Commandos" I am much more enlightened about this unit. Delta is indeed a true COMMANDO unit that can do practically everything ranging from hostage rescue over sabotage and reconaissance to bodyguarding and covert espionage.

btw: Phantom, I'm getting the German version of "Inside Delta Force" tomorrow morning! :)

I saw a movie called THE WILD GEESE,it was about a team of mercs who go into africa to get a kidnapped politician from rebels. They get him ok. but the guy who hired them double-crossed them and left them without extraction while the enemy was in hot pursuit.

Anyway, great movie, starred Richard Burton, Richard Harris (Man Called Horse) and Roger Moore and some others you would know.

Lots of action...

Well, guys, I built a missions were enemy soldiers ( A.I. soldiers ) are fighting you in pretty much close quarters combat.  Its bassically you go into this one town and people from windows above you start shooting MG's, people from cracks in between buildings, and other people charging or hiding in the buildings.  I know how to make good A.I. fight is close quarters.  But the mission will be awhile.  The Visnorsk mission pack ( as it is called ) will not be released for another two or four weeks  ;D

Read Rainbow 6 by Tom Clancy.  You could use some of the missions from his book in your campaign ;).  Instead of Rainbow 6 operatives you have Delta operatives. ;D

The only problem with R6 missions is most of the stuff in the book is indoors.

And thats my thing that i'm good at.  Making indoor fighting and having the A.I. be able to react fast enough :)

How do you make the A.I. better indoors? I didn't kno you could even place them indoors...

Re:BAS Campaign

you can.  You just set them outside at the begining of a mission, them teleport them to the downstairs part and make them face that way, setunitpos up, setbehaviour combat, skill70 or 80, and hehe watch out ;)

Can you also make your team move precise enough for CQB? Can you make them enter buildings? Walk up stairs?  :-\

The problem with placing units indoors is that they have a nasty habit of poking their head through a wall and shooting you.  OFP limitation, I suppose.  Nothing is more frustrating than walking by a building and then getting shot in the back from some guy "indoors".  >:(

Well, you guys, you have to create big building, building like huge office ones and then units will follow you SoMeTiMeS and if you make the enemy face a direction at all times then he will not shoot you while looking through the wall the the same time.  :D

You know, it seems as if everything someone says I have to answer in this forum  :P

how about 'why do u act so big headed'?  ;)

units can enter buildings by placing a move waypoint (or whatever) and thens selection position and a number - each number corresponds to a posistion in the house - mess around and see what works best

indeed - the OFPEC campaign looked at this as a possible story line - but unfortunatly it was mostly all spec ops (including a very interesting prison raid in georgetown - been there, awesome scenary)

would be very good for the BAS gear tho

Sad what happened to delta at that compound, some helos got shot down by AA fire and some other things and alot of our men were killed.  You know Special Forces against a huge army isn't the way you want it, a first strike before to soften it all up would have been better.

Hey BMG, nice of you to steal this dudes ost by replying with stuff about your own campaign, make your own topic, dont steal peoples topics. And although off topic Delta does everything, although they are ment to be anti terroist strictly. Grenada does sound good, although it did get kind of screwey. My dad knows someone who was CIA and jumped into Grenada wearing civvie clothes and un armed, he was to gather intelligence about a building. When he entered the building (a factory) several soldiers ran onto the walkways over him (some how they 'found out' that he was coming) so he grabbed an AK out of a gun rack in a closet and busted some caps in their asses  ;D. But any ways the army does screw some stuff up.

If it was Panama I would prefer late as well. Due to the fact Noreiga was the driving force behind the countrys problems and the invasion. If you wanted to make it modern day make it so one of his cronies comes back and snatches power form the legitimate government using help and financial support from Columbian drug cartels needing better distribution channels for their product.

Problem with Panama is it was not an island...whereas Grenada was. AS Messy mentioned....lots of cool Special Ops missions for Rangers and Seals (no Delta mission I'm aware of...that was Panama- Operation Acid Gambit the rescue of Kurt Muse a CIA Operative).

Personally the scale of the island and operation makes me think Grenada is better.

The Radio tower on the island north of Nogova would be perfect for the Navy Seals mission to capture the Grenada radio tower as explained at Navyseals.com ;)

and if anyone wants to make an island then i can help with it - i've sailed around greneda for 6 or 7 years now - i have nautical maps of the place and all towns and villages - and the all important photos for texture reference etc...

Georgetown (capital - southwest of island - near the old airstip) is an amazing place - situated on the rims of an old crater open to the sea - with the Prison on the highest point and all the houses whitewashed and red roofs - an awesome sight - as for the airfield - there are 2 - one which is a bit north from the south west peninsular and one which is on the south west peninsular - the latter is the current international aiport - the former was where US troops landed and garrisoned etc...

greneda could become a very good mod - an amazing island and with amazing troops to use - all a good idea.

Well i think that maybe you should forget about making a campaign about Grenada, Panama or Somalia and try something different

make a completely new campiagn based on your own ideas

You have the island of nogova
a brand new set of units
you wont be limited by a timeline

if anything the whole ofp mission comunity should pull 2geteher and make the best, baddest and most sickest campaign known to man

and it could be ofp editing centres very own love child!!

i think that a whole invasion of nogova by a coalition of men would be cool and it wouldnt have to be america and britain and australia
it could be any combination imaginable
think outside the square you live in

the ideas would be endless and the political situation in the world could be what ever you wanted.

thats my 2 cents worth

thanxs
Tim

I like the rainbow six idea, as soon as you said that it particularly got me thinking about their first mission as a team at the mansion to rescue the guy, I dont recall his name at the moment. But I have made some missions based on the game rainbow six, although they were some of my first maps. Maybe I should go back and try to redo some of them  :-\
