Abu-sayyaf Mission
« on: 07 Oct 2002, 17:45:01 »
this is a mission idea that i dreamed up one day at work. It uses Jungle warfare tatics and hit and run tatics. As everyone knows the War on Terrorism has taken US Spec. Ops in to the Phillippines. I was thinking about a mission to go in and rescue hostages taken by the Abu-Sayyaf and destroying a good portion of their weapons as well as taking out some of their higher ranking officials. I wrote the whole mission down on a sheet of paper includeing an Op order and a couple of mission Fragos that would happen in the such as the Transport Helio going down or having to call in Medivacs as well as Hostage transport helios. The main Items that i would like to do in this mission is to show what the Spec Ops does in the way of hostage rescue, secureing an Objective and of course Sniping. the worst thing is that i am a losey Mission maker in the game so if anyone wants to take this idea and run with it, its open game for anyone. and if want any ideas on how to make mission more like the real thing, I'm a 7 year vet in the US Army now in the National Guard and I'm willing to lend my expertice
HOOOAAH!

Well I would be intersested in takeing a crack at this one but I have a few questions

1 On a standard hostage rescue mission how many men in the team would be standard I was thinking two one sniper and one spotter

2 Would artilery ever be used on such a mission or overwatch
(helos excetera) would alerting the terrorists be of top concern in the case of a helo

3 Do you know of any missions (in real life ) that I can use as a template namely missions that have occured in S.E. Asia

sincerly the Chef  :)

HOOAAH Thanks for Replying! :) well Number one Helio Extraction is always nessary for Hostage rescue, While Arty is mostly for attack and Destroy missions, and only when it is available. Missions that have happened in SE Asia are kinda hard to find out about, but I will try too see if i can find any missions out. The Special Ops uses mostly the AC-130K for Arty if available, thanks in part to the 105mm Howitzer that is Set along the side of the Airplane :P  The one mission that comes to mind the Most is the sort of botched mission to retrive the Missionary, his wife and a Nurse. I dont know if the Man was killed first but i know that he was dead at the scene, his wife was hit by either Abu or Phillipino Soliders and the Nurse came back ok.
In a small unit, contray to popular belief, the Spec. Ops will consits of a Demo expert, Medic, Weapons Spec.s, language translator/Weapons Spec. and a Team leader. Most are Sergents. The Interesting thing about Spec ops that there tends to not be any Officers leading the Unit, Just the Person that has the most training for a particalar Mission or a person that knows the terrian and People well, People ie language, and Culture.
I know that most Special Ops Teams Work in Groups of 5 to 10 depending on what the mission calls for. I've heard of Groups that can be up to 20 but thats probobly more BS than Truth. From What i know and What i have seen most units operate with At least One Doc, up to Three Weapon Specialists and the team Leader. To take back hostages You would try to use Stealth, Silent Weapons, Long Range Weapons over Large open terrian, but Due to the Jungles the Only people that would be concerned with sniping would be the Abu. Weapon Selection is a must. most Spec. Ops Choose the Weapon that they are the most confortable with and or that is in Use more in the AOR(area of Responcablity) Man My Spelling sucks. Well if you need any more info just give me a PM and I'll get it for you.
Thanks Again!
RAT out!
