Campaign - 3 years service
« on: 27 May 2004, 16:13:22 »

I am beginning work on a campaign featuring british troops. The campagin is going to be set in the last few years. The main idea is much like the original OFP campaign. The campaign will follow one cental guy from his beginnings at an army training regiment, right through to the end of his 3 years service.

I have already begun the training missions and have completed the BFT (battle fitness test) and map reading skills. Each mission is heavily ladened with triggers ensuring that the player (whilst not in command of a squad) can only perform certain tasks. for example he /she cant go off running around the base insead of completing the BFT.

I want to make it as realistic as possible, featuring a real regiment. The Royal Anglians 1st Battalion (The Vikings).

the player will start as a Civilan joining the army, and progress on to specialise in one area, this could be sniper, driver, milan crew, etc  he will then eventually  command his own squad, company etc.

i'd like some help with this from people who have actively served in the infantry, i basicly want mission ideas, training ideas.

I am also looking for british voice actors to help too, i dont know how to implement voices or sounds yet, but am sure i can learn quick.

let me know you thoughts, suggestions welcome, all will be considered..!!

Three years of service? Is the campaign gonna be like 50 missions long?

I'd suggest that you have a stamina script orsomething resembling it for the boot camp stuff. I only know a little about the US military training through books but the boot camp thing is a real pain in the ass for those new scummy civilians the DIs love so much.

I like the non linearity of your campaign. Its good that you can be a sniper, tanker, reg infantry, para, or pilot etc, it really adds to the whole atmosphere. Although this entails lots of work for you...

I'm sure everything will work out for the best.

thanx for encouragement, yeah i think its gonna be about 50 or more missions.

So far just with the training stage its gonna be about 10 !!

it will take a wihile to make but i think OFP needs something where the player gets to pick and choose what happens to his / her character and team mates.

50 missions is alot to cram into one campaign. Not only that, but think of the download size. You'd have a hard time finding a way of hosting something that size. I suggest that you cut it down into smaller sections and release them one after the other. You could release one part that focuses on the guys training, and then the guys first year of service, and so on....
But thats just a suggestion.

Also, what addons do you plan on using?'

I also suggest downloading the ROC 3.0 mod (if you havn't already). It has a great campaign where you can choose what career to follow (marines, army, paratroopers, special forces). Mabey you could get some ideas from there.
