target at the shooting range
« on: 20 Aug 2002, 18:09:19 »
hey gang wondering, how do you get a unit to fire at the object "target E" ?. cause i want to do a training mission but  the ai wont fire at it. i have tried man1 dotarget target ect but nothing happens. but what would be handy if someone could tell me how to get a unit to fire his weapon continuesly non stop. i have tried man dofire ["m16", "m16"] ect what ever, it wont even work. im running resistance too maybe there is a different command? oh one more thing i have downloaded units and the hand gun doesnt appear on all of them, like you can fire it ect but you dont see the gun in your hand. wondering if anyone can help me with all of this. thanks
brons.

I had the same problem and I asked that here and it looks like there's no way to do that. The AI won't fire at them.  >:(

its the same for me.
I used the command

man1 dotarget target
man1 Fire "Weapon"

Guess what? They aim the target then they shoot aiming the sky...... funny huh?

Use DoFire instead of DoTarget

This is straight from the comref.
Quote
doFire target
Operand types:
    target: Object
Type of returned value:
    None
Description:
Order unit do commence fire on given target (silent). If target is objNull, commence fire to current target (set using dotarget or commandtarget).

Example:
    soldierOne doFire objNull
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'WOW What a Ride!'"

They shoot the sky because they calculate the ballistic trajectory of the bullet, like a mortar, so the bullet fall and hit the target.

that doesn't work KTottE

SeAnVeR:
hope you were joking about the ballistic trajectory of the bullets... :)

somebody suggested me to try to put a GameLogic near the target and make the shooters fire at that instead of the target itself...

Yes, I was joking, they just shoot aiming at a  UFO...  :gunman:

I'm not sure but I think that they don't shoot the gamelogics either......

Dang, and I'm supposed to know these things ;-)
Anyway, the game logic thing sounds like an ok idea to me. Try that, and see if it works to your liking.

No no no, AI never has targeted a gamelogic, its invisible so they cant see it.  I did have an idea of hacking the SQM and making an evil telephone that could be placed behind the target,  maybe someone should try that.

Have you tried that "KnowsAbout" stuff and...

man1 Action ["weapon","M16"]
man1 doTarget target
man1 doFire target

...or changed the sides of the targets in the mission.sqm?

That works for tanks (they're targeting anything you want!).

Instead of using objects use live Russian soldiers. Remove their weapons and put this disableai "move" into their init fields.  :P
Not all is lost.

What Artak actually suggested is possible and works, and i think that u can try using barrels as well. U put them behind the target and then make the d00des shoot it.
